The Board of Technical Education, Uttar Pradesh (BTEUP), was established in May 1958, initially named the ‘State Board of Technical Education and Training’ and later renamed to ‘Board of Technical Education’ in 1962. It gained statutory status with the enactment of the “U.P. Pravidhic Shiksha Adhiniyam – 1962”. BTEUP has conducted examinations for diploma courses and the Draughtsman Certificate Course since 1960, starting with about 2,500 students across 25 institutions. Its structure comprises a chairman, vice-chairman, and 40 government-appointed members.
The curriculum development has been in-house since 1980, managed by the Curriculum Development Centre at I.R.D.T. Kanpur. Presently, BTEUP oversees exams for over 250,000 students in 60+ disciplines, including computer science, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering, across various diploma levels.
