IIIT Dharwad Admission 2024
IIIT Dharwad is inviting applications for two study programs: Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and M. Tech. (Research), starting in August 2024. Here are the details:
For the Ph.D. program:
- Regular (Full-time): You can get financial support from the institute or pay for it yourself or apply for the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme.
- Sponsored (Full-time or Part-time): If you're sponsored, you won't get financial help from IIIT Dharwad.
- Part-time: Similar to sponsored, part-time students won't receive financial support from the institute.
For the M. Tech. (Research) program:
- Regular (Full-time): You can get financial support from the institute or pay for it yourself.
- Part-time: If you're an external candidate or a college teacher, you won't get financial support from IIIT Dharwad.
For both programs, if you're in the first category, you might receive financial help depending on the availability of funds. The final decision on admissions will be made by the institute's authorities.
Eligibility Criteria
Here are the eligibility criteria for the Ph.D. and M. Tech. (Research) programs at IIIT Dharwad:
Ph.D. Program:
For fields like Computer Science and Engineering, Data Science and Intelligent Systems, Electronics and Communication Engineering:
- You need either a Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology in relevant areas or a Bachelor’s degree (B.E./B.Tech./M.Sc./Technology) or its equivalent in relevant areas.
- If you have a Bachelor's degree, preference is given to those with experience in R&D organizations, published papers in reputable conferences/journals, or patents.
- For Physics/Mathematics, a Master’s Degree in relevant areas is required.
- The minimum grade point average (CGPA) should be 6.0 for General/OBC and 5.5 for SC/ST/PwD category students, or equivalent percentage marks.
M. Tech. (Research) Program:
For fields like Computer Science and Engineering, Data Science and Intelligent Systems, Electronics and Communication Engineering:
- You need a Bachelor’s degree (B.E./B.Tech./M.Sc./M.C.A.) or its equivalent in IT/Engineering disciplines.
- You should have a valid score in an entrance examination like GATE/NET or national level selection process conducted by IIIT Dharwad or any other national level examination.
- The minimum CGPA should be 6.5 for General/OBC and 6.0 for SC/ST/PwD category students, or equivalent percentage marks.

Screening Test:
- All shortlisted candidates will have to take a screening test.
- The test will have multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and/or short answer type questions.
- It aims to assess the candidates' understanding in their respective fields.
Interview Process:
- During the interview, the candidates' fundamental knowledge in their respective disciplines will be evaluated.
- The interview serves to further assess the candidates' suitability for the program.
Both the screening test and interview are important steps in the admission process, ensuring that the selected candidates are well-prepared and possess the necessary knowledge for their chosen fields of study.
How to Apply?
To apply, follow the below steps,
- Get the application form on the official website iiitdwd.ac.in
- Now start filling in the details.
- Read the instructions carefully before filling the online application form on the Institute’s website.
- If applying for multiple disciplines or schemes, fill out separate application forms for each.
- Even if waiting for exam results, you can still apply.
- Government of India rules for reservation apply.
- Complete all sections of the application form; incomplete applications won't be considered.
- Provide details of at least two people who can give reference letters supporting your application, with at least one being an academic who taught you.
- Check the Institute website and provided email regularly for important updates, all admission communication will be through email.
- Travel allowances won't be provided for screening tests/interviews.
- Applicants attending written tests/interviews must bring:
- Government-issued photo ID.
- Printed copy of the submitted application.
- Any thesis/dissertation/report/publications.
- Original certificates and mark sheets, valid GATE/NET/SLET scores, caste certificates, along with photocopies.
