The UK Board Class 10 Painting Syllabus for 2024-25 provides students with a detailed guide to learning painting and art. It covers the fundamentals of visual arts, including the elements and principles of art, and teaches the methods and materials used in painting, such as poster colors, watercolors, oil pastels, and pencils.

Class 10 Painting Syllabus

UNIT- I: Fundamentals of Visual Arts (The Elements and Principles)

This unit focuses on understanding the basic elements and principles of visual arts, which are crucial for creating balanced and aesthetically pleasing artworks.

UNIT-II: Methods and Materials of Painting

  • Understanding and appropriate use of:
    1. Tools: Various tools used in painting, including brushes, palette knives, and other implements.
    2. Painting Materials: The use and application of different painting materials such as:

      • Poster Colours
      • Water Colours
      • Oil Pastels
      • Pencils

UNIT-III: Story of Indian Art

This unit explores the rich heritage of Indian art, covering selected paintings, sculptures, and architectural masterpieces.

  1. Appreciation of Indian Art:

    • Paintings:

      • Bodhisattva Padmapani (Ajanta)
    • Sculpture:

      • Ashokan Lion Capital (Mauryan Period)
    • Architecture:

      • Kailashnatha Temple (Ellora, Maharashtra)
  2. Indian Folk Art:

    • Paintings: Madhubani and Warli

PRACTICAL:

Painting-Composition:

  • Creating a painting composition using water, poster, or pastel colors on given subjects.
  • This can be based on sketching from life and nature and may include abstract, semi-abstract, or folk art forms.
  • Criteria for Evaluation:

    • Compositional arrangement and emphasis on the subject.
    • Treatment of media with an appropriate color scheme.
    • Originality and creativity.
    • Overall impression.

Painting from Memory:

  • Simple compositions created from memory using water, poster, or pastel colors.

INTERNAL ASSESSMENT:

  1. Project Work/Portfolio:

    • The portfolio should consist of 10 best works, including color sketches, painting compositions in watercolors, poster colors, oil pastels, and pencil colors created during the year.
  2. Continuous Assessment (Unit Test):

    • 05 Marks:

      • There will be three unit tests conducted throughout the year: two before the half-yearly examination and one after.
      • At the half-yearly result preparation, the best of the two Unit Tests (I & II) marks will be taken and converted to a weightage of 05 marks.
      • For the annual board examination, the best out of three Unit Test marks will be taken and converted to a weightage of 05 marks for the result preparation.
