Fantasy Island Ending Explained
Upon arriving on the island, the group of visitors - all of whom have won a contest - are presented with their dreams becoming a reality, tailored to their individual needs based on a questionnaire they completed. However, as their fantasies begin to take dangerous and unexpected turns, Roarke - the island's benefactor and facilitator - issues a warning. It is later revealed that Melanie, who had pretended to seek revenge on a childhood bully, was actually responsible for bringing everyone to the island. Some time ago, Gwen caused a fire that resulted in Melanie's crush, Nick Taylor, being burned alive, with everyone else contributing to his tragic demise. Melanie's desire for revenge stems not only from what was done to Sloane but also from her own experiences of being bullied and lacking confidence. Nick was the first person to make her feel special, and when he didn't show up for their date, Melanie began to doubt herself even more.
In the end, Roarke saves the day by rescuing his guests from certain death. However, the island's dreams come with a cost, and every action has consequences. Roarke had made a deal with the island to keep his wife, Julia, alive in exchange for living on the island and carrying out its orders. Despite Julia's cycle of being well then ill, Roarke decides to let her leave and goes against the island's rules to save his visitors, ultimately losing Julia forever. At its core, the story serves as a cautionary tale about the conditions and consequences of every action.
What Happens In Fantasy Island At The End?
Blumhouse, the production company behind popular horror movies such as The Purge, Paranormal Activity, and Insidious, released Fantasy Island in 2020, much to the delight of horror fans. The film, based on the famous TV series of the same name created by Gene Levitt, centers on a group of people who are given the opportunity to make their wildest dreams come true on a mysterious island resort. However, as with all things too good to be true, there are unexpected consequences.
While there hasn't been any official announcement of a sequel, there are rumors that Blumhouse may be working on a follow-up. One possibility is that the events that unfold after the first film may impact the futures of Brax and JD. In the movie, Brax and JD visit the island to fulfill their fantasy of partying and getting high, but JD tragically dies during the experience, leading to an unexpected ending.
At the conclusion of the film, Brax chooses to stay on the island and help Mr. Roarke with the hope of using his imagination to bring his brother back to life. Fans of the original TV series will notice a small detail in the epilogue, where Brax reveals a "Tattoo" on his chest, which is explained as a college error. This detail, which was also the name of a character in the TV series, maybe a clue that another movie is in development.
