IPL - Indian Premier League
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a popular men's Twenty20 (T20) cricket league held annually in India, founded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007. The league comprises ten teams based in seven cities and three states of India and has an exclusive window in the ICC Future Tours Programme, meaning that international cricket does not take place during that time. The IPL is the most popular cricket league in the world, with a brand value of ₹90,038 crore (US$11 billion) in 2022, and has contributed significantly to the Indian economy. The league has completed fifteen seasons, with the Gujarat Titans as the current title holders, winning the 2022 title in their first season. Zee Entertainment Enterprises provided funding for the establishment of the Indian Cricket League (ICL) in 2007. However, the BCCI and the International Cricket Council (ICC) did not recognize the ICL, and the BCCI was unhappy with its committee members joining the ICL executive board. To prevent players from joining the ICL, the BCCI raised the prize money in its domestic tournaments and imposed lifetime bans on players who joined the ICL, which was regarded as a rebel league by the board.
