Is The Marked Heart Based on a True Story?
Leonardo Padrón, a Colombian author, actor, and screenwriter, created and wrote the series, The Marked Heart, based on his own original idea, rather than a real-life incident. The show is set and filmed in Padrón's homeland, and several prominent landmarks, such as the Quinta de Bolívar, the José Celestino Mutis botanical garden, the Maloka Museum, and the Planetarium of Bogotá, are featured throughout the series. CMO Producciones produced the series, and Camilo Vega directed it.
The show is entirely fictional; however, the illegal organ trade, known as the "Red Market," is a real phenomenon. Selling human organs is illegal worldwide, but there is a constant shortage of organs needed for transplantation. The scarcity of organs and the desperation of those seeking to save their own lives or the lives of their loved ones often lead individuals to take drastic measures.
Most of the illegal trade in human organs preys on people living in poverty who are encouraged or threatened to sell their organs. Abductions of unwilling "donors" are not uncommon, though they may not be as frequent as urban legends suggest. According to a MagellanTV article, negative economic factors and so-called "Transplant Tourism" are the most significant factors contributing to the illegal organ trade.
The Marked Heart Ending Explained
In the second season of The Marked Heart Zacarias struggles with his obsessive love for Camila, who he believes he can win over by doing terrible things. However, his actions ultimately drive Camila away and earn the wrath of her family, including Sam and Lucas. After a confrontation with them, Zacarias decides not to tell the organization looking for Sam where she is. Meanwhile, Tulio rescues Nicky and the others from the hostage situation at the club and rekindles his relationship with her.
Lorena, who was involved with Zacarias, collects incriminating evidence against him with the help of Julia Moncada, a former presidential candidate who hopes to become vice president. They have enough evidence to take down Zacarias and even the President orders his arrest. Sarmiento is also arrested and charged with treason. Lorena and Faust hold a press conference to reveal the corruption of Cardenas and Zacarias to the world, which may lead to Cardenas losing everything.
Somebody donates their heart to Samantha, and the surgery goes smoothly. Camila goes to Zacarias’ house and finds a recording where he confesses his love for her but also expresses his desire to atone for his mistakes by giving his heart to Samantha. Camila is moved to tears and finds Zacarias' body with a scar over his heart. Simon and Camila decide never to tell Samantha that the heart belongs to Zacarias.
The season ends with uncertainty about whether Camila and Simon's love is their own or if it is just a manifestation of the connection between Simon and Valeria, the original heart recipient. It is also unclear if Zacarias' actions have convinced Simon of his point. The final scene shows Camila and Simon sitting near the edge of a cliff, with Valeria's presence with them.
The Marked Heart Plot
The Marked Heart is a thrilling TV series that follows Camila's life a year and a half after she escaped from Zacarías's men. While staying in Turkey, she constantly worries about being discovered since Zacarías has learned about her faked death. She moves to Mexico, where Simón resides, but falls into a trap with him and his family. Zacarías reveals shattering news about Samantha to Simón.
Camila proposes a daring deal to Zacarías, but he refuses to accept it. Simón and Tomás undertake great risks to help Samantha, who is in poor health due to Zacarías's actions, but their efforts put them in a dangerous situation. Greta confronts and threatens Zacarías while Simón's bravery pays off. Samantha's condition worsens, and the family's fortune improves before a sudden blow from the enemy shatters it. Zacarías gives Simón a gruesome ultimatum, forcing him to comply with the pressure.
Cardenás learns of Zacarías's involvement with the Organization and gives him a deadline to eliminate them, while Camila asks Greta for help with Samantha. Simón becomes desperate as Nicky falls prey to the Organization, and Zacarías faces a series of setbacks in his political career. A gunfight ensues at the Eden Club, where Tulio and his police friends arrive, and Simón resorts to violence.
Zacarías executes a shocking plan, Cardenás tries to escape his downfall with Greta, Samantha's heart transplant is successful, and Lorena is betrayed by her husband. The Marked Heart is a captivating series that takes viewers on an exciting and dramatic journey full of twists and turns.
