The Laureus World Sports Awards are one of the annual award ceremonies honouring individuals and teams from the world of sports for their sporting achievements throughout the year. The Award function was established in 1999 by Laureus Sport for Good Foundation founding patrons Daimler and Richemont. These programmes have the objective of using the power of sport to end violence, disadvantage, and discrimination and to show that sport has the ability to change the world. The first Laureus World Sports Awards ceremony was held on 25 May 2000 in Monte Carlo, at which famous South African president Nelson Mandela gave the keynote speech.

The winners of the Laureus awards will be disclosed between March and May 2023. Above 1,400 members of the Laureus Global Media Nominations Panel decided on all categories except one - the shortlist for the Laureus World Sportsperson with a Disability Award was selected by a panel containing specialists from the International Paralympic Committee. The uniqueness of the Laureus Awards is the final stage of the judging process. A vote by the 71 associates or members of the Laureus World Sports Academy.
