NECO

The National Examination Council, commonly referred to as NECO, is a prominent examination body in Nigeria. Established in April 1999 by former Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar, NECO is responsible for conducting two major exams: the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) in June/July and the General Certificate in Education (GCE) in November/December.

Notably, NECO was the first federal organization to offer subsidized registration to academic candidates in Nigeria, aiming to make education accessible to a broader population. The council was mandated to take over the responsibilities of the National Board of Education Measurement (NBEM), and its inaugural examination was held in mid-2000.
