Franklin Saint ending explained

The FX original series Snowfall has concluded its critically acclaimed six-season run with an episode titled "The Struggle." Fans of the show were thrilled to watch the final episode, which featured a wild and frenzied Franklin (played by Damson Idris) in his unhinged state. The contrast between his final moments and his actions from the first season was quite poetic, and it was heartening to see most of the surviving characters receive a fitting sendoff.

Although our prediction that Franklin would survive the chaos of season 6 proved accurate, we did not anticipate that he would lose his mother, Veronique (played by Devyn Tyler), his son, his money, and his home in the final moments of the show. However, as he stated, he was "free" in the end, echoing his words from the first season about his desire to gain freedom through drug dealing.

This raises the question of whether cocaine truly enslaved Franklin, given that he is worse off now than he was when he worked at Cho's convenience store. Franklin's developed alcohol problem was another significant issue in the series finale. In earlier seasons, he had vehemently denied any similarity to his father Alton (played by Kevin Carroll), but in the final episode, he found himself drawing parallels with his father's early days on the show when he, too, was addicted, disheveled, and lost in thought.

Finally, the scene in which Franklin and Leon walked past a movie set and saw a group of young boys playing with a football was particularly poignant. Snowfall was partially inspired by John Singleton's 1991 classic film Boyz n the Hood, set in LA, and seeing the young boys on the movie set was a touching tribute to Singleton's legacy.

What happens to Franklin Saint?

Three months after the previous events, we see Franklin residing in Cissy's house, struggling with debt and addiction, while the banks are pressuring him. With Top Notch's assistance, he locates Peaches, who was living only 25 miles away. Franklin tries to take her money, but during the altercation, he ends up shooting her, and a junkie who appears on the scene also falls victim to Franklin's firearm.

When Franklin learns that Peaches' safe only contains $12,000, he kills the mechanic he hired to open it, named Miguel. Jumping ahead two more years, we see that everyone is attempting to move forward with their lives. A year later, Franklin is depicted as a solitary alcoholic living in a house filled with city notices.

He goes on a walk with Leon in the neighborhood and remains stubbornly convinced that everyone is conspiring against him because they know who he truly is. Meanwhile, Veronique contacts Franklin but refuses to reveal her location, informing him that she has given birth to their child and is determined to raise the child correctly and break the curse.

Snowfall Season 6

Snowfall is a crime drama television series produced by John Singleton, Eric Amadio, and Dave Andron that premiered on FX on July 5, 2017. The show is set in Los Angeles in 1983 and follows the devastating effects of the first crack epidemic on the city.

The series focuses on the lives of several individuals whose stories are intertwined, including 20-year-old drug dealer Franklin Saint, Mexican wrestler Gustavo "El Oso" Zapata, CIA agent Teddy McDonald, and the niece of a Mexican crime boss, Lucia Villanueva. The sixth season of Snowfall has been confirmed to be the final season of the series and was released on February 22, 2023. The season consisted of 10 episodes.

Snowfall Season 6 plot

Snowfall season 6 is packed with deceit, treachery, and violence, as well as the US government's crackdown on drug trafficking. Franklin's best friend and former second-in-command of The Family, Leon, reveals that the government is cracking down on drugs more than ever, likely referring to the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1986, which stipulated that the possession of five grams of crack cocaine would be punished as severely as the possession of 500 grams of powder cocaine, considering that the show is set in the 1980s.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Dave Andron stated that season 6 will be much "heavier" and darker than the previous ones. He acknowledged that although the show has always tried to maintain a light touch, there is a lot of humor in the situations in the world that people use to survive day to day. However, the story has to end in tragedy, and the last season is going to feel a little heavier. The last two seasons were more lighthearted, but the final season is going to be much darker in tone.
