Team Cherry is currently working on the development and publishing of Hollow Knight: Silksong, an upcoming Metroidvania video game that will be available for various platforms including Windows, macOS, Linux, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The game was first revealed on 14 February 2019 as a sequel to the 2017 game Hollow Knight. The developers aim to release the game before 12 June 2023.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is set in a spooky bug-inhabited kingdom and is a 2D Metroidvania game. The game's protagonist is Hornet, who uses a needle to fight off enemies and was once a boss in the first game. As Hornet explores the kingdom, she faces off against over 165 different enemy types, as well as numerous friendly non-player characters. Hornet has a different healing system than the Knight from Hollow Knight. Instead of using soul, Hornet uses silk to heal. She can heal three masks of damage instantly while on the move, unlike the Knight, who had to stop and heal one mask at a time, making it vulnerable to further damage. However, this depletes her entire silk bar. This change is intended to make the game faster-paced and more challenging than its predecessor. When Hornet dies, she leaves behind a bundle of silk that replenishes some or all of her silk notches when broken, instead of leaving a Shade like the Knight.Silksong will have a higher difficulty mode called "Silk Soul mode," similar to Hollow Knight's "Steel Soul mode," which features permanent death.
