Infected, also jokingly called Sickness on April Fool's Day, is a special game mode introduced in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Originally, it started as a game mode you could play with friends in private matches. However, on February 5, 2012, it was made available to everyone in the online community on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
PC players got access a bit later, on May 9, 2012. You can also find this mode in other Call of Duty games like Ghosts, Advanced Warfare, Infinite Warfare, and Black Ops III. In particular, it was available from March 6, 2018, to April 3, 2018, in these later games.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is a first-person shooter video game developed by Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision. In the multiplayer mode, all sixteen maps from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 are accessible at launch. Players can vote for maps in matchmade lobbies, a feature returning after some recent titles omitted it. The game also raises player health, leading to a longer "time-to-kill" (TTK).
The "red dot" minimap, absent in the 2019 Modern Warfare, makes a comeback, displaying enemy locations when they fire unsuppressed weapons. Classic game modes like "Kill Confirmed" and "Hardpoint" return, along with a new mode called "Cutthroat." Ground War and War mode are back with dedicated maps, and AI-powered moderation identifies and reports toxic behavior. Over a dozen new multiplayer maps are set to release post-launch.
A novel open-world PvE Zombies mode, developed in collaboration between Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games, is a highlight. Unlike traditional round-based Zombies, it follows the DMZ mode structure, with up to 24 players in squads, battling zombies and AI-controlled human foes to complete objectives, gather loot, and extract. The mode introduces "zones" instead of rounds, with escalating difficulty levels. Aether Storm and narrative-driven story quests add depth to the experience.
