Post-playing Dawson and his twin brother Chris both became teachers of Physical Education at public high schools on the northern beaches of New South Wales after they stopped playing rugby. Paul taught at The Forest High School. He married Marilyn in 1969. The Dawson brothers and their families moved to Queensland in 1985 and Paul worked at Coombabah State High School. Dawson’s twin brother Chris was convicted on August 30, 2022, of killing his wife Lynette Dawson in 1982, after a trial by a judge in the Supreme Court of New South Wales.
