His parents hailed from the Old Swan area of Liverpool in England and were both veterans of World War II—his mother served in the Women's Royal Air Force and his father in the British Army. Myers has roots tracing back to distant Scottish ancestry. He grew up alongside his two older brothers, Paul, a musician, and Peter, who was employed at Sears Canada.
His upbringing was in Scarborough and North York, where he attended Sir John A. Macdonald Collegiate Institute before graduating from Stephen Leacock Collegiate Institute in 1982. During his formative years, he was neighbors and schoolmates with the renowned voice actor Maurice LaMarche.
