In a special video from Atlus, the sound director of Persona 5 Tactica, Toshiki Konishi, talked about creating the game's music. He explained that since Tactica is a strategy RPG where players spend a lot of time in battles, using typical RPG music wouldn't quite fit. Instead, he aimed to keep elements of the beloved Persona 5 music while making it work for longer battles.

Konishi wanted the music to feel connected, so he used similar melodies and rhythms across different songs. He didn't go for too much variety in the music's style, wanting it to all feel linked together. Even though Persona 5 was heavily influenced by acid jazz, Tactica's music took a different turn, incorporating a mix of rock guitar elements.

One exciting thing for fans is the return of Lyn Inaizumi, the Japanese singer who contributed to Persona 5's music. Konishi mentioned that her voice was a significant part of Persona 5's music and bringing her back for Tactica's tracks helps to maintain a sense of connection between the two games. Persona 5 Tactica recently launched on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch on November 17th, giving players a chance to experience this new musical direction alongside the strategic gameplay.

Persona 5 Tactica

"Persona 5 Tactica" is an exciting tactical role-playing game developed by P-Studio and published by Sega. It branches out from the well-known Persona series, which is part of the broader Megami Tensei franchise. Released on November 17, 2023, the game is available across various platforms like Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

The game's narrative runs parallel to the events of Persona 5, following the journey of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts. They find themselves transported to a conflict-ridden alternate world, teaming up with a group called the Rebel Corps. Players navigate through grid-based landscapes and engage in turn-based combat, incorporating classic RPG elements, including Persona summoning, fusion mechanics, and elemental affinities. "Persona 5 Tactica" emerged from Atlus' desire to expand the Persona series into the strategy RPG genre. Leveraging their experience with similar game styles and recognizing the compatibility between Persona 5's world and strategic RPG gameplay, the developers integrated familiar series features into this new tactical adventure.

Persona 5 Tactica Gameplay

In "Persona 5 Tactica," you're in charge of a team moving around on a grid-like map, taking on enemies in turn-based fights. You control members of the Phantom Thieves and Erina from the Rebel Corps. During battles, you can hide to lessen damage or block attacks completely. You've got options in battles, like using guns for ranged attacks or summoning powerful Personas, each with different abilities that affect how enemies move. Knock down an enemy without cover, and you get an extra turn.

And if you surround enemies in a triangle with your team, you can unleash a super-strong attack called 'Triple Threat,' hitting all enemies in that area. As you play, you'll gather more Personas to give your team extra skills. You'll find these by winning fights or by merging different Personas together. And as the story unfolds, you'll travel through maps inspired by three real-world revolutions, facing off against enemy units along the way.
