Rugby World Cup 2023
The 2023 Rugby World Cup is a big rugby tournament happening in France from September 8 to October 28, 2023. It's the tenth time they're doing this championship for national rugby teams. This time, it's all in France, with games in nine different places. The first game and the final match will be at the Stade de France in Paris. It's a special year because it marks 200 years since people say rugby was invented by someone named William Webb Ellis.
Originally, the tournament was going to last six weeks, but they added an extra week to give the players more rest. South Africa won the last one in 2019, and this time, teams will have at least five days of rest between matches. France has hosted the Rugby World Cup twice before, in 2007 and in 1991 when they shared it with England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. This tournament happens just before the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Plus, there are two teams, Chile and Portugal, doing something special. Chile is playing for the first time, and Portugal is back after 16 years since they last played in 2007, also in France. So, it's a big deal for rugby fans!
