Hailing from a baseball family, he is the son of former MLB player and hitting coach Mickey Brantley and showcased his talent early, emerging as a standout player at Fort Pierce Central High School in Fort Pierce, Florida. The Milwaukee Brewers selected Brantley in the seventh round of the 2005 MLB draft. His journey to the major leagues continued when the Brewers traded him to the Cleveland Indians during the 2008 season in a significant deal involving pitcher CC Sabathia. Brantley marked his MLB debut with the Indians in 2009.

• Michael Brantley was born in Bellevue, Washington, where his father, Mickey Brantley, played for the Seattle Mariners in Major League Baseball (MLB) at the time. However, he was raised in Port St. Lucie, Florida, where he began playing baseball at the age of seven in the Southwestern Port St. Lucie Little League Baseball. His exposure to professional baseball increased when his father worked as the hitting coach for the New York Mets in 1999, allowing Michael to spend time around the team.
• For his education, Brantley attended Fort Pierce Central High School in Fort Pierce, Florida, where he actively participated in both the baseball and golf teams. In his senior year, he showcased impressive skills on the baseball field, boasting a remarkable .595 batting average and tallying 22 runs, 12 runs batted in, and an impressive 32 stolen bases. Despite being drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers after high school, Brantley made the decision to forgo his National Letter of Intent to play college baseball for the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.
