What Happened to from Yizo Yizo Cast?
Yizo Yizo, a South African television drama series, graced the screens of SABC 1 from 1999 to 2004. It is set in the fictional Supatsela High School, located in a township of Johannesburg. The series opens with the exit of the school's tyrannical principal, Mr. Mthembu, who was removed for beating a student. His successor, Ken Mokoena, is portrayed as weak and corrupt, which allows gangs to take over the school. However, Grace Letsatsi replaces him and works with the school community to rebuild the institution and eliminate the criminal elements.
The South African Department of Education commissioned Yizo Yizo as part of the Culture of Learning, Teaching and Service (COLTS) campaign, which aimed to address the problems in township schools. The show's primary goal was to provide positive role models and showcase the process of restoring an average urban school in a South African township. To achieve this, the Department collaborated with the education division of the South African Broadcasting Corporation to develop storylines, and eventually contracted Laduma Film Factory, later renamed Bomb Productions, to produce the series.
