Assassin's Creed Mirage

"Assassin's Creed Mirage" is a video game developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux and published by Ubisoft. It's the thirteenth major game in the Assassin's Creed series and comes after "Assassin's Creed Valhalla" from 2020. It came out on October 5, 2023, for various platforms like PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It's also planned for release on iPhone 15 Pro models in early 2024.

The game's main setting is 9th-century Baghdad during a period of chaos in Samarra. It follows the journey of Basim Ibn Ishaq, a character introduced in Valhalla, as he transforms from a street thief into a full-fledged member of the Assassin Brotherhood. This Brotherhood fights for peace and freedom, opposing the Templar Order who seek peace through control. Mirage is described as a return to the series' original style, putting more emphasis on a straightforward story and stealth gameplay compared to recent games that focused more on role-playing elements.

After it came out, Mirage received positive feedback from critics. They liked the game's simpler approach, seeing it as a return to what made the series great.

Assassin's Creed Mirage Gameplay

"Assassin's Creed Mirage" is a stealthy action-adventure game that goes back to the style of older Assassin's Creed titles. It's more focused on a straightforward story and reduces the role-playing elements found in recent games. The core gameplay involves parkour, close combat, and stealth. In missions where you need to assassinate someone, the game uses the "Black Box" design, where you have to explore the area to figure out different ways to reach and take down your targets.

The game's main setting is the city of Baghdad, divided into four districts, including the Round City, Karkh, Abassiyah with its House of Wisdom, and Harbiyah. Additionally, there's Alamut, the fortress headquarters of the Hidden Ones. Baghdad is smaller compared to recent Assassin's Creed worlds, more like the size of Paris in Unity or Constantinople in Revelations.

The main character, Basim, has a range of weapons and tools, like the iconic Assassin Hidden Blade, smoke bombs, throwing knives, and poison darts. These can be upgraded through a skill tree, allowing for different effects. Basim also has special abilities like Eagle Vision and a bird companion named Enkidu, which helps scout areas. Unlike previous games, enemy archers can spot and attack Enkidu.

A new ability called "Assassin Focus" lets you take down multiple enemies at once. It recharges when you perform stealth assassinations. When activated, time slows down, and you can mark up to five enemies for Basim to quickly eliminate. There are also special poles around Baghdad that help you cross wide gaps. The game's animations for moving and running have been improved for better movement and flow, drawing inspiration from samurai, ninja, and even Jedi."

Assassin's Creed Mirage Plot

In the time of the Abbasid Caliphate, Basim Ibn Ishaq was a young thief in the city of Anbar. He's plagued by visions of a terrifying jinni, which his friend Nehal helps him with. Wanting to join the Hidden Ones, a group fighting for peace, Basim is rejected. In an attempt to prove himself, he steals a chest from the Caliph's palace. Inside is a strange artifact that activates and shows him a vision. The Caliph is killed, and Basim and Nehal flee. Guards start hunting thieves, and Basim blames Nehal before they part ways.

With the help of Roshan from the Hidden Ones, Basim escapes and trains with them. He learns the Order of the Ancients is gaining power in Baghdad. Basim and Roshan go to investigate. Basim discovers members of the Order in high positions and stops their plans. He reunites with Nehal, who believes they're connected to the ancient artifacts. Qahiba, the Order's leader, hints at answers in a First One temple beneath Alamut. Roshan stops Qahiba and warns Basim not to delve deeper.

Ignoring Roshan, Basim heads to Alamut with Nehal. They find it under Order control. Basim fights Roshan and gains entry to the temple. Inside, he realizes Nehal and the jinni are his repressed memories of Loki. Basim chooses to merge with Nehal, regaining his memories.

Basim returns to the Hidden Ones, causing Roshan to quit. Now knowing he's a reincarnation of Loki, Basim anticipates a "reunion" with those responsible for his past imprisonment.
