Blue Archive

"Blue Archive" is a role-playing game developed by Nexon Games, initially released in 2021 for Android and iOS. Set in an academic city called Kivotos, players step into the shoes of a Sensei, summoned to this city by the president of the General Student Council. However, after the president vanishes unexpectedly, the city faces a surge in criminal activities. The player, alongside the remaining council members, takes on the responsibility to tackle these issues and assist in the search for the missing president.

In this free-to-play game, players explore the city and navigate through various challenges while utilizing gacha mechanics to collect new characters known as Students. These characters possess unique abilities and roles, aiding the player in their quest to maintain peace in Kivotos. Additionally, the game's immersive world and storyline have led to the announcement of an anime adaptation titled "Blue Archive: The Animation."

Blue Archive Gameplay

"Blue Archive" offers a tactical role-playing experience where players assemble teams of up to six members, comprising two "Specials" and four "Strikers." These units are crucial for engaging in various military campaigns within the game. Players can strengthen their Students in multiple ways, including leveling up, enhancing weapons and armor, and improving their skills. New Students can be recruited through the gacha system, using in-game currency obtained through gameplay or purchased via in-app purchases.

The battles in "Blue Archive" unfold on a turn-based hex map. When units encounter enemies or vice versa, battles commence. During combat, Strikers advance along specific paths, encountering groups of enemies. They automatically attack, utilizing cover to reduce their chances of being hit. On the other hand, Specials provide support from the backlines, boosting Strikers' stats without directly engaging in combat. While players generally lack direct control over battles, they can use Students' skills, which consume a regenerating currency.

Combat relies on a rock-paper-scissors mechanism for attacks and defenses, determining the strengths and weaknesses of both Students and enemies. If a Student's health is fully depleted, they get rescued by a helicopter and cannot participate in subsequent battles.

Later in August 2021, an eagerly anticipated worldwide version was unveiled, amassing over a million pre-registrations before its release. This version, featuring support for English, Korean, Traditional Chinese, and Thai languages, was launched on November 8 of the same year by Nexon, broadening its accessibility to a global audience.

Expanding its reach further, a Simplified Chinese version for release in China was announced in March 2023. After a closed beta test between June and July, the game officially launched in China on August 3, published by Yostar. The game's evolution continued with Nexon's announcement in October 2023, unveiling the availability of the Global version on the Galaxy Store for Samsung phones, subsequently launching on October 31.
