Blue Archive Gameplay
In Blue Archive, a tactical role-playing game, you get to assemble teams of up to six students, which consist of two "Specials" and four "Strikers," for various military missions. These students can become stronger by leveling up and improving their weapons, armor, and skills. You can recruit more students using the gacha system with in-game currency that can be bought through in-app purchases.
During battles, your units move on a turn-based hex map, and combat begins when they encounter enemies. Strikers advance along a straight path and occasionally run into groups of enemies. They launch automatic attacks and can take cover behind objects to avoid getting hit. Specials don't directly fight but boost the Strikers' abilities and offer support from the backlines.
In battles, you can use the students' skills, which require a regenerable currency. Both students and enemies have rock-paper-scissors-style strengths and weaknesses in their attacks and defenses. If students lose all their health, they need to be rescued by a helicopter and can't join in later battles.
Blue Archive Plot
Blue Archive unfolds in the unique setting of Kivotos, an academy city formed by merging many academies. This city consists of distinct districts, with the General Student Council president holding the highest authority from the Sanctum Tower, where all students' records are accessible. Before the game's events, the president summons the player, known as Sensei, to advise Schale, an extrajudicial group she established. However, she mysteriously vanishes, leading to an increase in criminal activities and military presence.
The plot kicks off with Sensei talking to the student council president, who reveals that they are the only hope to save Kivotos from an impending catastrophe. Shortly after, Rin, the vice president, wakes Sensei and informs them about their mission to assist the city's students. The president has vanished, creating uncertainty. As the story unfolds, Sensei encounters various students, such as Yuuka from Millennium Science School. Players can explore Kivotos and follow the narrative.
The main story is divided into several volumes, each focusing on specific school groups and divided into chapters. Currently, there are four story volumes, along with a "final" volume that connects them all but isn't the ultimate conclusion to the game's entire storyline.
Blue Archive Review
Blue Archive has garnered mixed reviews since its release. Many players praise its engaging tactical gameplay, cute character designs, and the ability to collect various students for their teams. The turn-based battles and strategic elements have received positive feedback.
Overall, Blue Archive offers an enjoyable gaming experience for those who appreciate tactical RPGs and character collection, but it may not be for everyone due to its gacha mechanics and certain story aspects.
