The series is based on an American show of the same name that ran on FYI for one season in 2016 before being picked up by Lifetime for a second season in 2020. The show follows couples who intend to marry but are opposed by their families. On October 29, 2018, a second season with six new couples premiered. They launched a casting call for new couples during the second season, and a third season has been confirmed for 2019. On June 5, 2018, Channel 4 began airing a five-episode British adaptation.
