Broken Age Info

Double Fine developed and published Broken Age, a point-and-click adventure video game, which was Tim Schafer's return to the genre since Grim Fandango in 1998. It was released for various platforms, including Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Xbox One.

The game consisted of two acts, with the first being released on January 28, 2014 (earlier for Kickstarter backers) and the second on April 28, 2015. Nordic Games released a retail version of the complete game for Windows, macOS, and Linux on April 28, 2015. The Nintendo Switch version was released on September 13, 2018.

Originally called Double Fine Adventure, Broken Age was a crowd-funded project promoted by Double Fine and 2 Player Productions in February 2012. The initial goal was to raise $400,000 to cover the costs of development and documentary filming.

However, the project gained immense popularity and became the largest crowd-funded video game project at the time, raising over $3.45 million from more than 87,000 backers within a month.

Broken Age is still one of the highest-backed crowd-funded projects of any type, and its success helped establish Kickstarter and other crowd-funding mechanisms as viable alternatives to traditional venture capital and publisher funding for niche video game titles. 2 Player Productions produced an episodic series of documentaries chronicling the game's development.

Broken Age Gameplay

Broken Age is a point-and-click adventure game that allows players to control a character who can move around the screen, examine objects, and interact with non-player characters to learn more about the game's world. The game has two playable characters, each located in seemingly separate worlds. Players can switch between the characters using the game's interface but they do not interact directly with each other.

The game uses context-sensitive actions instead of verb lists, as Tim Schafer, the game director, believed that there was always only one verb: "interact with." The game also features separate item inventories for each character, and players can use items by dragging them onto context-sensitive areas on the screen or combining them with other inventory items.

Broken Age Act 2

This comprehensive walkthrough covers all the steps for Broken Age Act 2, developed by Double Fine Productions. As Shay and Vella's stories are interwoven in Act 2, the walkthrough follows Shay Volta's story first and then moves on to Vella Tartine's story. In the final chapter, the walkthrough switches back and forth between the two characters.

When the phrase "exhaust all options" is used, it refers to dialogue options that players should explore to hear everything the characters have to say. The walkthrough provides specific responses for certain puzzles but also encourages players to ask for additional help in the comments section if needed. By following this walkthrough, players can experience all the cutscenes at the right moments and minimize backtracking.

Shay’s Story

  1. Start with Shay in Shellmound. Tap the screen to wake him up and talk to his dad, Ray. Head left and pick up the broken Hexipal.

  2. Head up the stairs to the pyramid and talk to Alex. Exhaust all options to get the schematics for a Superconductive Gyroscopic Hypercam. You'll need to help him fix the ship by finding an electrical genius, patching the hull, getting a radiation suit for Alex, and finding a Heavy Duty Anti-Gravity Thrust Unit.

  3. Leave the pyramid and go back to the beach. Talk to Ray and find out he needs more calcium carbonate. Talk to Carol for wire but she wants a hook in exchange. Head left to the talking tree, then to Curtis the woodworker's house. Take the flyer about Vella missing from the mailbox.

  4. Talk to Curtis, exhaust all options, then head up the ladder to Meriloft.

  5. Talk to F'ther and have Shay climb the ladder to talk to Harm'ny Lightbeard. Talk to F'ther again and have him try to untie the bow in Harm'ny's cloud.

  6. Go back to Shellmound and give the snake to Marshall Dune so it can do the Heimlich maneuver on him. Talk to Marshall Dune and give him the schematics for a Superconductive Gyroscopic Hypercam.

  7. Exhaust all options in each conversation to get more information and items.

  8. Switch to Vella and progress through her storyline until it intersects with Shay's.

  9. Switch back and forth between Shay and Vella as necessary to solve puzzles and progress the game.

  10. Follow the walkthrough to get all cutscenes at the right moments and minimize backtracking. Ask for extra help in the comments section if needed.
