Cyberpunk 1.62 Update Patch Notes Intro

The latest update for Cyberpunk 2077, version 1.62, is now downloadable on PS4, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The official patch notes state that the update includes a technology preview of Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode. It also brings improvements to DLAA, Intel Xess, and benchmarks.

In collaboration with NVIDIA, a new fully ray-traced rendering mode called Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode has been introduced to the game through the latest patch. It is a revolutionary technology that pushes the boundaries of what is possible. However, since it is a new and fundamentally different technology, it may not be flawless at first, and players may encounter some problems. Therefore, it has been labeled a "Technology Preview." This is a preview of the future that we want to share with our players, and we are dedicated to further enhancing and refining this feature.

The highly anticipated game Cyberpunk 2077 is now available on multiple platforms including PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One worldwide. However, the upcoming expansion called Phantom Liberty will only be released later this year on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.

Cyberpunk 1.62 Update Patch Notes

Path Tracing: Technology Preview

A new feature called Ray Tracing: Overdrive has been added to Cyberpunk 2077, which includes path-tracing technology. To enable it, go to Settings > Graphics > Quick Preset or Ray Tracing section in Graphics settings. Make sure you have updated your NVIDIA Game Ready Driver to version 531.41 or higher to ensure it works correctly on your PC.

Moreover, the latest patch has added an option to render path-traced screenshots in Photo Mode for other Ray-Tracing-capable graphics cards with at least 8GB VRAM. If the option is greyed out, it means you need to lower your in-game resolution. Note that the higher the resolution and less powerful the GPU, the longer it will take to take a screenshot, which can range from a few seconds to several minutes. Path Tracing for Photo Mode can be enabled in Settings > Graphics in the Ray Tracing section.

DLAA

An AI-based anti-aliasing mode called NVIDIA DLAA has been added to the game to enhance image quality. It requires an NVIDIA RTX graphics card and can be enabled in the NVIDIA DLSS section of the Settings > Graphics menu.

Intel XeSS

The update includes support for Intel Xe Super Sampling 1.1, which is an upscaling technology that uses machine learning to improve performance while maintaining high image quality. To enable it, go to Settings > Graphics and select the Resolution Scaling section.

Benchmark Improvements

The benchmark feature has been enhanced to show additional information on the results screen. This includes details about the user's PC specifications, the GPU driver version, and the selected settings used during the benchmark test.

Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red's 2020 action role-playing video game, Cyberpunk 2077, is set in Night City, an open world in the Cyberpunk universe. Players control a customizable mercenary named V, who can acquire skills in hacking and machinery and choose between melee and ranged combat. V's main story involves a struggle with a mysterious cybernetic implant that threatens to overwrite their body with the personality and memories of a deceased celebrity only perceived by V. The two must work together to separate and save V's life.

The game's development started after the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Blood and Wine (2016). The game was developed by a team of approximately 500 people using the REDengine 4 game engine. CD Projekt created a new division in Wrocław, Poland, and partnered with Digital Scapes, Nvidia, QLOC, and Jali Research to aid production. Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith was a consultant, and actor Keanu Reeves played a starring role. Marcin Przybyłowicz led the original score, which included contributions from several licensed artists.

CD Projekt finally released Cyberpunk 2077 on 10th December 2020 for PlayStation 4, Stadia, Windows, and Xbox One, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions arriving on 15th February 2022. The game was widely lauded by critics for its story, setting, and visuals, but some gameplay elements were met with mixed reactions, and the portrayal of transgender characters and themes drew criticism. The console versions faced serious performance issues, leading Sony to remove the game from the PlayStation Store from December 2020 to June 2021. CD Projekt was also accused of downplaying the severity of technical problems prior to release and became the subject of investigations and lawsuits. These were ultimately settled for US$1.85 million. As of September 2022, Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 20 million copies. The upcoming expansion, Phantom Liberty, is set to release in 2023 on PC and ninth-generation consoles, and a sequel is in development.

Cyberpunk 2077 1.62 Update

The latest update for CP2077, Patch 1.62, introduced a new rendering mode called Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode, developed in partnership with NVIDIA. This fully ray-traced mode significantly enhances the game's graphical quality and is available for high-end PCs as a technology preview. However, players should be aware that, as an experimental feature, it may have some issues. The Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode requires an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 Series (4070 Ti and up) graphics card, or an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 (1080p, 30 fps) due to its high hardware demands. For other ray-tracing-capable PC graphics cards with a minimum of 8GB VRAM, the update also includes an option to render path-traced screenshots in Photo Mode.

The release of Patch 1.62 also comes with a few extra features, which include NVIDIA DLAA, an AI-powered anti-aliasing mode, and support for Intel Xe Super Sampling 1.1, a technology that enhances upscaling capabilities. Furthermore, the benchmark tool has received improvements. For a comprehensive rundown of changes made in this patch, please refer to the patch notes. The Ray Tracing: Overdrive mode is a recently introduced rendering mode in Cyberpunk 2077 that utilizes fully ray-traced or path-traced technology. This advanced feature demands high-performance hardware to function seamlessly. CP2077 update 1.62 can be downloaded for free on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
