Cyberpunk 2077
"Cyberpunk 2077, a 2020 video game, unfolds in the futuristic Night City, California, where players control V, a character voiced by Gavin Drea/Cherami Leigh. V, a mercenary, gets entangled with the consciousness of rockstar and terrorist Johnny Silverhand, voiced by Keanu Reeves, due to a cybernetic "bio-chip." As Johnny's engram starts taking over V's consciousness, the two must collaborate to separate and save V's life.
Developed by a team of around 500 using the REDengine 4 game engine, the game received praise for its compelling narrative, immersive setting, and impressive graphics. However, it faced criticism for gameplay elements and technical issues, especially on consoles. Sony temporarily removed it from the PlayStation Store.
Despite challenges, Cyberpunk 2077 achieved significant success, selling over 25 million units by October 2023. An expansion titled Phantom Liberty, released in 2023, added more content to the game. Its total development cost, including updates and DLC, exceeded $436 million, making it one of the most expensive video games.
Cyberpunk 2077 Gameplay
"Cyberpunk 2077 is a video game where you play as V, a customizable mercenary. You can change V's appearance and abilities, choosing from three play styles: hacking, machinery, or combat. In the game, you can do various maneuvers in combat, like sprinting, taking cover, and jumping.
V's world is a big city called Night City with different areas. You can explore on foot or in vehicles, and there's a day-night cycle and changing weather. The city has different regions like the City Centre, Watson, Westbrook, Heywood, Pacifica, and Santo Domingo.
The game has a variety of weapons and ways to fight, including non-lethal options. You can also interact with NPCs through branching dialogues, and your choices affect the story's ending. As you progress, you can upgrade skills and unlock new quests. V has companions to help, and you can use items like food and drinks for healing. There are also mini-games like hacking, boxing, racing, martial arts, and shooting ranges. Overall, Cyberpunk 2077 offers a customizable and immersive gaming experience with a mix of combat, exploration, and story-driven elements."
Cyberpunk 2077 Plot
In "Cyberpunk 2077," players begin by selecting a lifepath for their character, V. The narrative kicks off with V, alongside Jackie Welles and T-Bug, working as mercenaries in Night City. A mission to steal the biochip, the Relic, for Dexter DeShawn takes a dark turn when they witness the murder of Arasaka's leader, Saburo Arasaka, by his son Yorinobu. The subsequent events lead to T-Bug's death and Jackie's fatal injury.
The game's plot takes an unexpected twist when, to save V, the damaged Relic is inserted into V's cyberware. This triggers the appearance of Johnny Silverhand's digital ghost, leading to a race against time for V's survival. Choices unfold as V must navigate through Johnny's memories and confront the irreversible process of Johnny's engram overwriting V's own consciousness.
Players face a crucial decision: either launch an assault on Arasaka Tower to access Mikoshi and remove Johnny or make a deal with Hanako Arasaka to extract the Relic. The outcomes are diverse, impacting V's fate and Night City's future. The story concludes with different possibilities, involving V becoming a legend, leaving with the Aldecaldos clan, or allowing Johnny to take over permanently.
