The sequel, Diablo IV, was announced in 2019 and released on June 5, 2023.

Diablo Season 3 Gameplay
Diablo III's gameplay maintains the series' iconic isometric viewpoint, reminiscent of its predecessors. The inventory, with 60 slots for items, mirrors the feel of earlier games. With fast-paced real-time combat, players embark on a heroic quest to save Sanctuary from Hell's forces.
Classic RPG elements include choosing a character class, leveling up, and acquiring randomized, attribute-rich equipment. The proprietary engine features Blizzard's physics and destructible environments. Multiplayer, facilitated by Battle.net, allows cooperative play.
Diablo III's constant online connection requirement, unlike its predecessor, facilitates their digital rights management policy. Enhanced quest systems, random level and encounter generators, and gold pickup mechanics streamline gameplay. Skill runes, unlocking as players level up, modify skills significantly. The game blends classic Diablo elements with innovative features for a dynamic and engaging experience.
Diablo Season 3 Plot
Diablo III unfolds in Sanctuary, the dark fantasy realm, two decades post-Diablo II. Deckard Cain and Leah investigate a prophecy in Tristram Cathedral when a mysterious star strikes, vanishing Cain. The Nephalem (player) arrives, joining Leah to rescue Cain and uncover a plot involving the Skeleton King.
They encounter Tyrael, the fallen star's true identity, seeking to warn Sanctuary about demon lords. Journeying to Caldeum, they face Belial's deceit, rescue Leah's mother Adria, and pursue the Black Soulstone to trap demon lords' souls.
Battling through Bastion's Keep and Arreat's crater, they confront Azmodan, only for Adria to betray them. Diablo resurrects, merging with other Lords of Hell to become the Prime Evil. The Nephalem, aided by Tyrael, defends Heaven and defeats Diablo, marking a new alliance between angels and humans. The tale continues in Diablo III: Reaper of Souls.
