Robert King Beathard Jr. (January 24, 1937 – January 30, 2023) was a general manager with the Washington Redskins and San Diego Chargers in the National Football League (NFL). He is an American Pro Football Hall of Fame executive. His teams participated in seven Super Bowls (four of which they won) over his 38-year NFL career, starting with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1966, the Miami Dolphins in 1972 and 1973, the famous team Redskins in 1982 and 1983, 1987, and for the team Chargers in 1994.

Bobby Beathard, a player personnel expert who helped teams in Miami, Washington, and other N.F.L. cities create football dynasties, passed away on Monday at his home in Franklin, Tenn., a little town outside of Nashville. He was 86. His brother, Peter, said that problems from Alzheimer's disease were to blame. Mr. Beathard (pronounced BETH-erd) had a talent for putting together football rosters full of undervalued players. He was an outspoken and unconventional thinker in a league known for buttoned-up team players. He was chosen to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018, and during his 33 seasons with five N.F.L. clubs that made it to the postseason a total of 12 times—advancing to seven Super Bowls and winning four of them—he served as a scout, director of player personnel, and general manager.

Beyond his own accomplishments, Bobby Beathard was a product of an NFL-related family. His brother, quarterback Pete Beathard, played professionally for a number of clubs, including the Kansas City Chiefs, Houston Oilers, St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, and Oakland Raiders. With the Chiefs, he captured the AFL championship in 1966. C.J. Beathard, a quarterback for the NFL, is Bobby Beathard's grandson. He joined the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021 after being selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2017 NFL Draft.
