Tragically, 20-year-old musician Ebony Reigns passed away in a fatal car accident in southwestern Ghana. The talented Afrobeat and Dancehall performer, whose real name was Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, was traveling to Accra with two friends after a trip to Sunyani. Upon impact with a bus, Reigns was rushed to Bechem Government Hospital for treatment, but unfortunately, she could not survive her injuries. Her two companions were also killed in the crash, while the driver of the bus remains hospitalized.
Reigns was a rising star in the Afrobeat music scene, known for her electrifying performances and powerful voice. She released her latest album, Bonyfied, in December 2022, building upon the success of her 2015 hit album, Dancefloor. Her hit song Poison topped the singles chart and her 2016 release, Kupe, was also a major hit in her home country.
Ebony Reigns' musical talent was first noticed by musician and entrepreneur Bullet, a member of Ruff n Smooth, after she sent him a recording of her voice. She quickly rose to fame and was beloved by fans for her unique sound and magnetic personality.
Following the news of her death, fans took to social media to pay tribute to the young musician. Many expressed their sadness and disbelief that such a talented artist could be taken so soon. One fan wrote, “Ebony held us all spellbound. You didn’t have to like her craft. You didn’t have to adore her. You could just see her star shining. She was just meant for stardom & it was obvious.” Another fan posted, “So young, so pretty, so talented.
