Elden Ring GamePlay

Elden Ring is played in a third-person perspective and offers gameplay focused on combat and exploration. The game shares many elements with other FromSoftware games, such as the Dark Souls series, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Players are allowed to freely explore the game's open world, the Lands Between, which is made up of six primary areas.

Players can explore the world using their mount, Torrent, and fast travel outside of combat. Along the way, players will encounter non-playable characters (NPCs) and enemies, including demigods who rule each primary area and serve as the game's main bosses. The game also features hidden dungeons, such as catacombs, tunnels, and caves, where players can fight bosses and gather helpful items.

At the beginning of the game, players choose a character class that determines their starting spells, equipment, and attributes. Players can use melee combat or ranged weapons and spells to fight enemies. Attacks from enemies can be blocked using shields or avoided by dodging.

Players can also use spells to enhance their weapons, fight enemies from afar, and restore lost hit points. The player can memorize a limited amount of spells, which can be cast using a staff or Sacred Seal item. Weapons can be improved using Ashes of War, which grants weapons new capabilities and add Weapon Arts, special abilities used during combat.

Checkpoints called Sites of Grace are located throughout the game's areas. These places allow players to increase the power of their attributes, change memorized spells, swap Ashes of War, or use fast travel. Players can spend runes, an in-game currency acquired by defeating enemies, to increase their attributes at Sites of Grace. Runes can also be used to buy items and improve weapons and armor. Upon death, players respawn at the last Site of Grace they interacted with.

Elden Ring also features crafting mechanics that require materials to create items. Recipes can be found inside collectibles called Cookbooks, which are scattered throughout the world. Materials can be collected by defeating enemies, exploring the game's world, or by trading with merchant NPCs. Crafted items range from poison darts and exploding pots to consumables that temporarily increase the player's strength in combat.

Elden Ring has a multiplayer system that allows players to be summoned for both cooperative and player versus player (PvP) play over the Internet. Cooperative play involves placing a Summon Sign on the ground, which causes the sign to appear in the world of online players who have used a corresponding item. If another player interacts with the sign, the person who placed it is summoned into their world.

PvP combat involves using a Summon Sign to directly challenge another player to a duel or using additional items to invade the worlds of others. World hosts may also use a "Taunter's Tongue" to increase the likelihood that their world will be invaded by others, as well as decrease the time between invasions.
