Ghostrunner 2 picks up a year after the events of the first installment. Jack, miraculously revived after the demise of the Architect, the guiding artificial intelligence from his initial awakening, now enjoys newfound freedom. He aligns himself with the Climbers, the rebellious faction that orchestrated the overthrow of the remnants of the original Dharma builders. Together, they strive to forge a semi-democratic government amidst the tumultuous aftermath of the old regime's collapse.

Comprised of first-generation Ghostrunners, this cult appears intent on obstructing the Dharma tower's path to hard-earned tranquility. Their machinations, however, extend far beyond the last bastion of civilization, posing a threat to all of humanity. Jack is compelled to venture into the desolate wastelands beyond the tower's safety.
Following a harrowing event, our protagonist embarks on a high-speed pursuit of one of the Asuras' leaders, commandeering a turbo-charged motorcycle. He soon finds himself exposed to the scorching rays of the sun, surrounded once more by foes and precarious platforms, navigating this perilous terrain with his characteristic agility and precision.

In Ghostrunner 2, players assume the role of Jack, a remarkably agile character navigating treacherous environments from a first-person perspective. Jack's acrobatic abilities, including dashing, jumping, wall-running, and sliding, are central to his gameplay. Additionally, he wields a grappling hook for swinging and a "Sensory Boost" skill to briefly slow time, allowing for mid-air maneuvers.
The game introduces a stamina meter governing the frequency of dashes and deflections.
