Grand Theft Auto V wiki

Rockstar North developed and Rockstar Games published Grand Theft Auto V, a 2013 action-adventure game. It is the seventh main game in the Grand Theft Auto series and the fifteenth overall. The game is set within the fictional state of San Andreas, based on Southern California, and follows the story of three protagonists, Michael De Santa, a retired bank robber, Franklin Clinton, a street gangster, and Trevor Philips, a drug dealer and gunrunner, as they attempt to commit heists while under pressure from a corrupt government agency and powerful criminals.

Players can freely roam the open world, which includes the open countryside and the fictional city of Los Santos, based on Los Angeles. The game's world can be navigated on foot or by vehicle, and players can switch between the three lead protagonists both during and outside missions. The story revolves around heist sequences, and many missions require players to engage in shooting and driving gameplay. The game includes a "wanted" system that governs law enforcement response to players who commit crimes.

Grand Theft Auto Online, the game's online multiplayer mode, lets up to 30 players engage in a variety of different cooperative and competitive game modes. The game's development began around the time of Grand Theft Auto IV's release, and the team drew influence from many of their previous projects, such as Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3. The game's development team designed the game around three lead protagonists to innovate on the core structure of its predecessors. Much of the development work constituted the creation of the open world, and several team members conducted field research around California to capture footage for the design team.

The game's soundtrack features an original score composed by a team of producers who collaborated over several years. Grand Theft Auto V was released in September 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, in November 2014 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, in April 2015 for Windows, and in March 2022 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Grand Theft Auto V broke industry sales records, earning $800 million on its first day and $1 billion in its first three days. It received critical acclaim for its multiple protagonist design, open world, presentation, and gameplay. However, it was also controversial due to its depiction of violence and women. The game won several Game of the Year awards from various gaming publications and is considered one of the most significant titles in seventh and eighth-generation console gaming and among the best video games ever made.

Grand Theft Auto V is the second best-selling video game of all time, with over 175 million copies shipped, and as of April 2018, one of the most financially successful entertainment products of all time, with about $6 billion in worldwide revenue. Its successor is currently in development.

Grand Theft Auto v gameplay

Grand Theft Auto V is an open-world action-adventure game that can be played from either a first-person or third-person perspective. The game is composed of the San Andreas open countryside area, including the fictional Blaine County, and the fictional city of Los Santos. Players complete missions with set objectives to progress through the story, but they may freely roam the open world outside of these missions. The world is much larger in area than earlier entries in the series and may be fully explored after the game's beginning without restriction, although story progress unlocks more gameplay content.

Players can take cover behind objects during firefights to avoid taking damage from enemies. They use melee attacks, firearms, and explosives to fight enemies, and may run, jump, swim, or use vehicles to navigate the world. The game introduces vehicle types absent in its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto IV, such as fixed-wing aircraft, to accommodate the map's size. In combat, players may use auto-aim and a cover system as assistance against enemies. If players take damage, their health meter will gradually regenerate to its halfway point, and they respawn at hospitals when their health depletes.

If players commit crimes, law enforcement agencies may respond as indicated by a "wanted" meter in the HUD. Stars displayed on the meter indicate the current wanted level, and law enforcement officers will search for players who leave the wanted vicinity. The meter enters a cool-down mode and eventually recedes when players are hidden from the officers' line of sight displays on the mini-map for a period of time.

The single-player mode lets players control three characters: Michael De Santa, Trevor Philips, and Franklin Clinton. Their stories interconnect as they complete missions, some missions are completed with only one character and others feature two or three. Outside the missions, players may switch between characters at will by a directional compass on the HUD. The game may switch characters automatically during missions to complete specific objectives. Each character has a set of eight skills that represent their ability in specific areas such as shooting and driving.

Though skills improve through play, each character has a skill with expertise by default, and the eighth "special" skill determines the effectiveness in performing an ability that is unique to each respective character. While free-roaming the game world, players may engage in context-specific activities such as scuba diving and BASE jumping, and visit businesses such as cinemas and strip clubs. They may purchase properties such as garages and businesses, upgrade the weapons and vehicles in each character's arsenal, and customize their appearance by purchasing outfits, haircuts, and tattoos.
