Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, the first-person shooter video game by Sledgehammer Games and Activision, was fully released on November 10, 2023. It marks the twentieth installment in the Call of Duty series and serves as the third chapter in the revamped Modern Warfare series.

Following the events of 2022's Modern Warfare II, the game's storyline revolves around the multinational special operations unit Task Force 141 as they pursue the Russian ultranationalist and terrorist Vladimir Makarov, who plans to instigate a third World War.

The game, available on platforms such as PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, maintains the realistic, modern setting of its predecessors. In addition to its engaging single-player campaign, Modern Warfare III introduces a multiplayer mode with remastered maps from the 2009 release, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and includes a Zombies mode, a first for the Modern Warfare series.

Sledgehammer Games initially set out to develop an expansion pack for Modern Warfare II but, as the project progressed, Activision decided to turn it into a standalone entry in the Call of Duty franchise. Leveraging the 9.0 version of the IW engine, Sledgehammer Games crafted the game's mechanics and graphics.

Notably, Treyarch, renowned for the Call of Duty: Black Ops series, collaborated in developing the Zombies mode. Following leaks in early to mid 2023, the game was officially unveiled in August 2023, with a showcase event and a public beta occurring in October. While some platforms categorize it as a DLC expansion of Modern Warfare II, it doesn't feature a Platinum Trophy on PlayStation 5.

How to Use Locked Diary in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies?

In Modern Warfare 3 Zombies, the Locked Diary is an important item that helps unlock special areas called Dark Aether Rifts. But just having the diary isn't enough—you'll need a few other items to make it work. First off, you'll need to collect three more items: a Surveillance Camera, a Pill Bottle, and a Dog Collar.

These items are kind of rare and need a bit of effort to find. The Surveillance Camera, for instance, can be obtained by taking down a Harvester Orb using a special weapon trick. Then, you can use an Aether Tear to teleport and complete a marked task to get the golden Surveillance Camera.

Similarly, the Pill Bottle requires using another weapon trick on an Aether nest and going through a set of steps to get it. Dog Collar needs some specific actions with a Doghouse and dealing with a tough Hellhound. Once you've got all four items, head to an island in the high-threat zone. There, you'll see four spots marked for each item: snowflake for the Locked Diary, lightning bolt for the Surveillance Camera, danger symbol for the Pill Bottle, and fire symbol for the Dog Collar. Place each item on its marked spot.

When all items are in place, a portal will appear, and this is where the real action begins. Lots of strong zombies will come out of this portal. Fight and defeat them to get a Dark Aether Sigil. Now, take this Dark Aether Sigil and use it to activate a portal into the Dark Aether Rift.

Inside this rift, there will be three contracts waiting for you. Completing these contracts will make these Dark Aether Rifts permanently accessible. Each time you want to go into these rifts, you'll need one of these Dark Aether Sigils. You can get them by completing certain tasks or finding them while exploring the Dark Aether locations.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Plot

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III's campaign story takes place after the events of Modern Warfare II. It features fictional locations like Verdansk, Kastovia, and Urzikstan. The main villain is Ultranationalist terrorist Vladimir Makarov. Task Force 141, led by characters like Captain John Price, Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley, Sergeant Kyle "Gaz" Garrick, and Sergeant John "Soap" MacTavish, are the main heroes. Players will also take on roles in Makarov's private military company, Konni Group.

The Zombies story happened in Urzikstan in 2021, after the events of Modern Warfare (2019) and almost 40 years after Black Ops Cold War. It includes characters like Victor Zakhaev, a Russian arms dealer, and Sergei Ravenov, a former Spetsnaz captain with experience in dealing with zombies. New characters are introduced too, like Jack Fletcher from the private military company Terminus Outcomes, and Selma Greene, who leads Operation Deadbolt, a CIA plan formed after the Cold War outbreak.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Gameplay

Modern Warfare III will play a lot like its predecessor and other Call of Duty games. It brings back features like slide canceling. The campaign offers both linear missions and 'Open Combat Missions,' giving players more freedom in how they tackle objectives. In multiplayer, there will be all sixteen maps from Modern Warfare 2 at launch.

Players can vote for maps in lobbies, and there will be a bit more health for a longer time to kill. The 'red dot' minimap is back, allowing players to spot enemies on their radar when they shoot without a suppressor. Classic modes like 'Kill Confirmed' and 'Hardpoint' are returning, along with a new mode called 'Cutthroat.' Ground War and War mode are making a comeback too.

The game will also have a new open-world PvE Zombies mode. Developed by Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games, it's different from the old round-based survival style. Up to 24 players will team up on a big map called Urzikstan. They'll face off against zombies and AI-controlled enemies, completing objectives, collecting loot, and extracting items.

Instead of rounds, the map is divided into 'zones' with varying difficulty levels. After 45 minutes, an 'Aether Storm' starts, giving players 15 minutes to get out with their loot. This can be carried into the next match. It includes familiar elements like weapon purchases, special drinks, and mystery boxes. Story quests will also be part of the mode, advancing the narrative.
