John Jay Caufield, born on July 17, 1960, is a former American ice hockey player. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for teams like the New York Rangers, Minnesota North Stars, and Pittsburgh Penguins from 1987 to 1993. He won the Stanley Cup with the Penguins in 1992.

Caufield was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and grew up near Lansdale borough in the Towamencin Township area, about a mile away. He finished high school at North Penn High School.

In the 1979-80 hockey season, Caufield played junior hockey for the Milton Flyers of the OHA-B. Later, he attended Hibbing Community College for hockey. Afterward, he went to the University of North Dakota, where he played football and had one hockey game during the 1984–85 season. He signed with the New York Rangers in 1985 and played for the Toledo Goaldiggers of the IHL.

Caufield played 13 games with the Rangers in the 1986–87 season, with 45 penalty minutes. He was traded before the 1987–88 season and played 65 games for the Kalamazoo Wings.

Playing with the Pittsburgh Penguins for most of five seasons, including the 1991–92 Stanley Cup-winning team, Caufield averaged almost four penalty minutes a game. In 194 games with Pittsburgh, he scored three goals. He was sent to the IHL for the 1993–94 season and retired at the end of that season.
