Dunkirk Plot

In 1940, during the Battle of France, Allied soldiers find themselves surrounded by German forces and retreat to the beaches of Dunkirk for evacuation. Among them is Tommy, a young British soldier and the sole survivor of a German attack. As thousands of troops await rescue, he meets Gibson, and they attempt to board a hospital ship but are ordered off.

The situation becomes dire as Luftwaffe dive bombers attack, sinking the ship. Tommy saves a fellow soldier, Alex, and the three are forced to return to Dunkirk. Meanwhile, civilian sailor Dawson sets out on his boat, Moonstone, with his son Peter and a teenage hand named George, intending to aid in the evacuation despite the risks.

They rescue a shell-shocked soldier from a wrecked ship and decide to head for Dunkirk. The soldier's panic leads to a scuffle that leaves George blind due to a head injury. Three Royal Air Force Spitfires, limited by their fuel capacity, head to Dunkirk to provide air cover for one hour. When their leader goes missing, Farrier takes command and continues despite a shattered fuel gauge.

While protecting a minesweeper, one Spitfire is shot down, and its pilot, Collins, is rescued by Moonstone. Back at Dunkirk, Tommy, Alex, and Gibson take shelter in a beached trawler, awaiting high tide for evacuation. As Germans shoot at the boat, Gibson's true identity is revealed, and he drowns while trying to escape.

Farrier, determined to help the evacuation, continues to fight despite running out of fuel. Eventually, over 300,000 men are evacuated from Dunkirk, and Tommy and Alex return home to a hero's welcome. The movie culminates in a powerful moment as Churchill's address on Dunkirk inspires the nation to keep fighting against Germany.
