It is the 5th installment in The Conjuring Universe collection and a spin-off/prequel to 2016's The Conjuring 2. Set in 1952 Romania, the storyline revolves around a priest of the Roman Catholic faith and a novice nun who stumble upon a sinister and forbidden truth. The Demon Nun, a manifestation of Valak from The Conjuring 2, is played by Bonnie Aarons in this movie. The movie also stars Taissa Farmiga, Demián Bichir, and Jonas Bloquet. It has become the series' highest-grossing film with an international take of $365 million. While praising the performances and setting, many faulted the film's prone plot and illogical reasoning. The Nun 2, directed by Michael Chaves, is presently in post-production.

The Nun Story
Two nuns from the Saint Cartha's convent in Romania were attacked by an evil power in 1952 after one of them went down a tunnel to recover an old Religious relic. On his way back to the village, Frenchie is ambushed by a demon but manages to flee. When Sister Irene meets some of the other nuns, she discovers that they continually pray while alternating shifts to ward off the demon. Sister Oana tells that the occult-obsessed Duke of St. Carta, a strong aristocrat, used the abbey as a castle during the Middle Ages.
The World War II bombings reopened the split and let loose the monster that had been slain with the Blood of Christ. Burke recognizes the demonic being as Valak and learns that Abbess has been lying in wait. It is believed that the blood of Christ from the reliquary must be used to seal the rift in order to halt Valak.

The Nun finishes with one final surprise for the audience, but what makes this so great is that Conjuring aficionados already know how the movie ends when Frenchie discloses that his real name is Maurice and that he is of French-Canadian ancestry. The shocking revelation that Valak is using Frenchie as his conduit into the outside world is revealed as the movie comes to a close. It can be noted by the upside-down cross mark on his neck.

Rotten Tomatoes: The Nun boasts strong performances, spooky atmospherics, and a couple of decent set-pieces, but its sins include inconsistent logic and narrative slackness.
