The Twelve

In this article, we will be seeing about a miniseries that is surely going to be a good one to watch if you like thrillers or crime-type series. This has all the elements of a thriller. The Twelve is a Fox Showcase Australian television drama miniseries. The series is produced by Ian Collie, Rob Gibson, and Ally Henville, with Michael Brooks, Hamish Lewis, and Liz Watts serving as executive producers. The Twelve was inspired by Sanne Nuyens and Bert Van Dael's 2019 Belgian series De twaalf. It tells the story of Kate Lawson, who is on trial for the suspected murder of her niece, and how the jury's personal lives and biases are brought to the courtroom. We will learn everything there is to know about this series and its plot.

Is The Twelve based on a true story?

Despite the Belgian drama's filming style and the real personalities of the jurors' backstories, The Twelve is not based on a true story. However, a few of the real former juries with whom the creators spoke for research purposes inspired them. In 2019, co-creators Bert Van Dael and Sanne Nuyens said how they came up with the storyline for the psychological thriller series. "We spent a significant amount of time researching our show." "We were really curious about how it felt inside a jury room." We spoke quietly with a number of ex-jurors.

The Twelve review

The show has received many reviews, which we will see below. It surely would have mixed kinds of reviews. "Lengthy and careful trials lend themselves to this type of slow-burning drama, as evidence is carefully uncovered and action is frozen in time". "It's a grimly complicated yet attaching story about the manipulation of women by poisonous male characters". "The Twelve passed my ultimate streaming test: I lasted more than 15 minutes before checking the time. If I become entirely engaged in a drama for more than 10 minutes, it's a good indicator". "The Twelve rises above most court dramas thanks to solid performances and a complex, one-of-a-kind approach."

The Twelve plot

"The Twelve" is a critically praised Australian television series that presents a gripping courtroom drama in which twelve ordinary people with ordinary lives not only serve as jurors in a horrible murder case but also get emotionally carried away. The term "responsibility" refers to determining whether a person is responsible for his or her own actions. Following a significant delay, the drama resumes with the murder trial of a 14-year-old teen, Claire Spaces. Claire's aunt, acclaimed fine art photographer Kate Lawson (Kate Mulvany), is accused of murdering Claire Spares on September 14, 2019. Although the public is split on whether there is enough evidence to convict Kate, her defence attorneys claimed that Kate should not be charged with murder unless there is tangible evidence that Claire died, as no dead body has yet been discovered. So the case that rocked the entire country is about to go on trial before a new jury in the Parramatta Supreme Court. Kate is led to court and greeted by her attorney, Mr. Brett Colby (Sam Neill), and his paralegal, Ezekiel Aku. Colby tries to convince her to be more straightforward in front of the jury, which will decide her fate based on their perception of what they see. The day begins with the jury's selection of fourteen people from various backgrounds to hear Kate's case. Following the twelve pre-selected members, two extra jury members were picked. They are all welcomed into a jury, where the jury members elect Corrie (Pallavi Sharda), a young woman from Parramatta, to act as their foreperson. What is the current situation? Who exactly is Kate Lawson? Is she really at fault for her niece's death? Will these fourteen people, each representing a different personality, be able to reach a fair decision? The only way to know is to wait and see.

The Twelve summary

Kate Lawson, a photographer, has been charged with the murder of her own niece. The verdict is decided by a jury of twelve people. The two-month trial reveals the genuine personalities, secrets revealed, personal traumas, and prejudices of those engaged in the case. Twelve ordinary people have been chosen for jury duty in a murder case that is both painful and contentious: respected headmistress Fri Palmers is believed to be guilty of two murders, one of which involves her own child. As the trial progresses, not only does Fri's destiny hang in the balance, but the lives of the jury members are also shaken to the core. Each jury member's reaction is influenced by his or her own personal wounds and life experiences. It is up to them to judge if this damaged lady on trial is guilty or innocent.
