The Ivors Academy

The Ivors Academy, formerly known as BASCA, is a big group for music writers in Europe. It helps and stands up for people who write songs, lyrics, and music. Started in 1944 as the Composers Guild, it changed over time and became The Ivors Academy in 2019. Famous people like Ivor Novello and Sir Tim Rice were part of its story. The group has about 2000 members, including new and well-known writers like Elton John and Paul McCartney.

They give out important awards like the Ivor Novello Awards, Gold Badge Awards, and British Composer Awards to celebrate great music writing. In 2022, Tom Gray took over as the chair. The academy does a lot to shape music in the UK, working with other groups like UK Music and putting on events like the 2021 Songwriters' Review.
