It is with great sadness that the news has been reported that Jharkhand Education Minister Jagarnath Mahto passed away during treatment at a hospital in Chennai this morning. The 56-year-old leader had undergone a lung transplant in Chennai after contracting Covid in November 2020. His death was confirmed by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who called it "irreparable damage".
One of Jharkhand's great agitators, combative, hardworking, and popular leaders, the respected Jagarnath Mahato ji passed away during treatment in Chennai. May peace be bestowed upon the departed soul, and may the bereaved family be granted strength to bear this difficult hour of grief. The Chief Minister tweeted and declared a two-day mourning period while also canceling the cabinet meeting scheduled for this evening.
Mr. Mahto, who had represented the Dumri assembly seat in Giridih four times, was airlifted to Chennai after falling ill during the state budget session last month. He is survived by a son and four daughters. BJP leader Babulal Marandi also condoled the JMM leader's death, stating that the departure of Jagarnath Ji, who had fought like a warrior and defeated the disease for a long time, is very sad. His vitality, despite political differences, had always been admired personally.
