Joshua Movie 2007 Ending Explained

The ending of the 2007 film "Joshua" is quite dark and disturbing. The film follows the story of a highly intelligent and manipulative nine-year-old boy named Joshua. In the final scenes, it is revealed that Joshua has been systematically and carefully plotting to rid himself of his parents and sister in order to have his wealthy Uncle Ned all to himself. Joshua's plan culminates in him framing his father for abuse and tampering with his mother's medications, leading to his father's arrest and his mother's death.

In the final scene, Joshua is seen playing the piano with Uncle Ned, singing a song about how his parents will never be loved by anyone and that he only wanted to be with Ned. Ned looks at Joshua with a disturbed glance, realizing the true extent of his nephew's manipulation and evil intentions.

On that particular night, Brad, Joshua's father, becomes suspicious of his son's behavior and fears for Lily's safety. To prevent any harm, Brad installs a lock on his bedroom door and tells Joshua that his sister will be sleeping with him. He also brings Betsy, a psychologist, to meet Joshua, but she mistakenly concludes that Joshua is being abused, frustrating Brad.

Brad then tells Joshua that he is sending him away to a boarding school, causing Joshua to run away from home. Upon returning home, Brad discovers that Joshua is missing and begins searching for him. Later that evening, Brad finds Joshua hiding in the kitchen, crying and begging not to be sent away.  When Brad pulls Joshua out of his hiding spot, he discovers a large bruise on Joshua's back.

The following day, while out with his sister, Joshua steals her pacifier, causing her to cry. When Brad confronts him, Joshua begins to mock him, prompting Brad to strike him. This leads to Brad being charged with assault and sent to jail, while Joshua frames him for tampering with Abby's medication. In the final scene, Ned realizes what Joshua has done and looks at him with a disturbed glance as the two compose a song.
