Hailing from Porcupine Plain, Saskatchewan, Canada, Chase played as a right winger in the National Hockey League (NHL) for teams such as the St. Louis Blues, Hartford Whalers, and Toronto Maple Leafs during his career from 1988 to 2000. Starting with the Humboldt Broncos in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, he later led the WHL in penalty minutes while with the Saskatoon Blades in 1987-88.
Despite going undrafted in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft, Chase signed as a free agent with the St. Louis Blues. He spent three seasons with the Peoria Rivermen of the IHL before becoming a regular on the Blues' team, winning the hearts of fans with both his on-ice performance and quick wit off the ice. In 1994, Chase co-founded and coached the Gateway Locomotives special hockey team, later renamed St. Louis Blues Special Hockey.
In 1995, he joined the Hartford Whalers, later traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1997, only to be reacquired by the Blues for the 1997–98 season. Chase retired from professional hockey in 2000 and transitioned into broadcasting, serving as the color commentator for St. Louis Blues radio broadcasts on KMOX until 2018.
