King Of Fighters

SNK's The King of Fighters (KOF) fighting game series debuted in 1994 with the release of The King of Fighters '94. The series was initially created on the Neo Geo MVS arcade hardware by SNK. Up until 2004, when SNK discontinued it in favor of the Atomiswave arcade board, this served as the series' main platform. Before SNK chose to stop using the Atomiswave platform for the King of Fighters series, two games were created for it: The King of Fighters Neowave and The King of Fighters XI. The Taito Type X2, which debuted with the release of The King of Fighters XII, is the most recent arcade hardware in the series. For a number of gaming systems, ports of The King of Fighters' arcade and original games have been made available. The King of Fighters XV, the series' most recent installment, was released in February 2022.

King Of Fighters Plot

The Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting fighting game series from SNK served as the basis for the King of Fighters tournament (canonically and chronologically beginning during the events of Art of Fighting 2). The protagonist of the first game in the series, KOF '94, is Rugal Bernstein, a black market arms dealer who organises a prestigious fighting competition to entice worthy opponents into his trap where he can kill them and turn them into stone statues, adding them to his collection of defeated martial artists. The game features a new hero: a teenage Japanese martial artist named Kyo Kusanagi, who acts as the main character in the early KOF titles, in addition to well-known fighting game heroes Terry Bogard and Ryo Sakazaki.

King Of Fighters Gameplay

The core gameplay mechanics of KOF are comparable to those of SNK's earlier titles, like the Fatal Fury series, Art of Fighting, and Samurai Shodown. Like Fatal Fury 2 and Fatal Fury Special, the game has four attack buttons: light punch, light kick, powerful punch, and strong kick. Similar to Fatal Fury 2, the user can unleash a character's potent knockdown attack or dodge an opponent's strike by pressing multiple buttons simultaneously. Similar to the majority of other fighting games, each character has a collection of standard, one-of-a-kind, and special moves that may be employed by pressing a set of buttons and joystick inputs.

What Does The Game “King Of Fighters” Focus On?

The title tournament, in which warriors from various SNK games compete, is the main emphasis of the game's plot. While still engaging with combatants from games like Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury, among others, SNK also created original characters to serve as the heroes of each of their story arcs. There have also been many spin-off games created, like the R duology for the Neo Geo Pocket and Maximum Impact for the PlayStation 2. While some characters have appeared as guests in other games, like Terry Bogard in Fighting EX Layer and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Geese Howard in Tekken 7, there have been other crossover games where the SNK cast has interacted with characters created by Capcom.
