Like a Dragon Gaiden Plot
"Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name" continues the story after the events of Yakuza 6 and fits in between the stories of Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Kazuma Kiryu, the main character, has faked his own death to protect his foster children and is now working as a secret agent under the codename "Joryu" for the Daidoji faction. However, a mission goes wrong, and Kiryu is pulled back into action by a mysterious figure.
New characters in this story include Kihei Hanawa, who works for the Daidoji faction, Homare Nishitani III, the head of the Kijin Clan, a part of the Omi Alliance, Kosei Shishido and Yuki Tsuruno, high-ranking members of the Omi Alliance's Watase Family, Akame, an informant in Sotenbori, Yoshimura, a manager in the Daidoji faction who doesn't like Kiryu, the head priest of the Daidoji Temple, who Kiryu trusts, and the Boss, a secretive leader in the Daidoji faction.
Returning characters from previous Like a Dragon games include Masaru Watase, leader of the Watase Family and part of the Omi Alliance, Daigo Dojima, the sixth chairman of the Tojo Clan, Goro Majima and Taiga Saejima, both senior members of the Tojo Clan, and Ichiban Kasuga, a former member of the Tojo Clan who has a connection with Kiryu.
Like a Dragon Gaiden Gameplay
In "Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name," players take on the role of Kazuma Kiryu and explore two districts: Sotenbori in Osaka and Isezaki Ijincho in Yokohama. There's also a hub area called the Castle, where players can engage in various side activities. The game brings back familiar minigames like karaoke, Pocket Circuit racing, cabaret club, and a fighting arena. A new character named Akame provides Kiryu with additional tasks.
Kiryu can fight using two different styles: Yakuza and Agent. The Yakuza style focuses on aggressive brawler combat, reminiscent of Kiryu's classic fighting style from previous games. On the other hand, the Agent style emphasizes speed and precision, incorporating high-tech gadgets.
Much like in Lost Judgment, "Like a Dragon Gaiden" includes several Master System games that Kiryu can play, such as Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Alien Syndrome, Enduro Racer, Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa, and more. Additionally, the game features arcade titles like Daytona USA 2 and Fighting Vipers 2.
