Mortal Kombat 1
Mortal Kombat 1 is a fighting video game released on September 19, 2023. It was created by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Games. This game is the twelfth main entry in the Mortal Kombat series and is both a reboot and a sequel to the previous game, "Mortal Kombat 11".
The story takes place in a new timeline, where Liu Kang, known as Fire God Liu Kang, gathers a group of fighters to participate in a Mortal Kombat tournament in Outworld. However, they face a challenge from two individuals trained by Shang Tsung. The game received mostly positive reviews from critics, but the Nintendo Switch version had some criticism for its graphics and technical issues.
Mortal Kombat 1 Gameplay
In "Mortal Kombat 1," the gameplay offers a variety of exciting features. Players can enjoy a story mode, play online with others using rollback netcode, and have offline battles. One interesting addition is the Kameo Fighters, who provide assistance during fights, somewhat like the tag assist fighters in the previous game, "Mortal Kombat 11."
These characters are separate from the main roster and can be chosen before each fight. They offer two types of assistance: Summons, which are used while the player stays in one place, and Ambushes, which can be executed regardless of the player's actions.
These Kameo Fighters can even perform their own Fatalities and Brutalities. Additionally, the choice of a Kameo Fighter affects the player's health in a fight. "Fatal Blows," introduced in "Mortal Kombat 11," return with a twist, as they are now collaborative moves between the player and their chosen Kameo Fighter when the player's health drops below 30%.
The game also features an Air Kombat combo system and offers various modes for both single-player and multiplayer enjoyment, including a story-driven mode, Towers mode, and a unique Invasion mode that combines fighting with board game and role-playing elements. This Invasion mode presents challenges to earn rewards like skins, in-game currency, and concept art. Players can also engage in local matches, compete online, and host tournaments with specific rules in the multiplayer modes.
Mortal Kombat 1 Plot
The plot of Mortal Kombat 1 revolves around the aftermath of defeating Kronika and Shang Tsung. Fire God Liu Kang takes control of the universe using Kronika's Hourglass but entrusts it to Geras as he becomes Earthrealm's protector.
Over time, he forges an alliance with Outworld to continue the Mortal Kombat tournaments. Meanwhile, Shang Tsung, now powerless, is approached by a mysterious figure named "Damashi," who reveals hidden forces at work. Liu Kang recruits fighters like Kung Lao, Raiden, Johnny Cage, and Kenshi for a new tournament, where Raiden becomes Earthrealm's champion.
As the story unfolds, Shang Tsung's return to power and his alliance with Outworld's Empress Sindel lead to a series of events involving Tarkatans, soul-stealing devices, and the revelation of parallel timelines. The tale ends with an epic battle, the erasure of a rogue timeline, and Liu Kang's preparations for future conflicts, setting the stage for potential new challenges.
In a mid-credits scene, alternate timeline warriors plan to start a longer battle. The story also includes separate "Invasion" and "Season of the Spectre" storylines, introducing intriguing twists and connections within the Mortal Kombat universe.
