Baltimore Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles are a professional baseball team based in Baltimore, Maryland. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member of the American League (AL) East division. The franchise was established in 1901 as one of the original eight charter teams of the American League.

Initially known as the Milwaukee Brewers, they later moved to St. Louis, Missouri, and became the St. Louis Browns in 1902. In November 1953, the team was purchased by a group of Baltimore business and civic leaders, led by Clarence Miles and Mayor Thomas D'Alesandro Jr.

The current owner of the Orioles is Peter Angelos, an American trial lawyer. The team plays its home games at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, which opened in downtown Baltimore in 1992. The Orioles adopted their team name in honor of the state bird of Maryland, the Baltimore Oriole.

This name had been used by previous baseball clubs in the city, including the original Baltimore Orioles, who later moved to New York and became the Yankees. The team is often referred to as the "O's" or the "Birds."The Orioles enjoyed their most successful period from 1966 to 1983, during which they appeared in six World Series and won three championships in 1966, 1970, and 1983.

This era featured several legendary players who represented the Orioles in the Baseball Hall of Fame, including Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, Jim Palmer, Eddie Murray, Cal Ripken Jr., and manager Earl Weaver. In addition to their World Series victories, the Orioles have also won nine division championships, seven pennants (one in St. Louis and six in Baltimore), and have secured three wild card berths. The franchise holds the distinction of being the last original American League charter member to win a pennant and a World Series.
