Parallel Ending Explained

Josh takes Devin to a different universe to cheer him up, where he manages to charm Carmen and get her to sleep. When Devin goes downstairs to listen to music, he doesn't hear Carmen's boyfriend come back and continue shooting Josh. Josh is carried by Devin back to their world, where he bleeds to death in the attic. Noel does not call 911 during this time. The remaining three are in a panic over what to do and reluctantly agree with Noel to kidnap Josh and exchange him for the dead body from another world.

The alternative is Josh, who gets high and sees his three friends leaving the new world. Josh is persuaded by the three that he got drunk and has no memory of becoming wealthy or being hired into his dream job. Noel has fixed this, and Josh leaves to take over the job. Devin eventually succeeds in finding an alternate universe where his father is still alive and meets him. Noel keeps on taking thoughts from various universes and begins to keep an eye on Devin and Leena.

Later on, Devin and Leena become more close, and Noel witnesses their passionate night together. Devin appears to have vanished early the following morning while looking for his father. Leena finds Devin's phone after Noel throws it in the trash, and she uses it to follow Devin to a cabin on the lake. Devin informs her that Noel filed a patent lawsuit against him. Leena realizes that Noel has killed the real Devin because Devin has no recollection of having slept with her. Noel brought in a new Devin from another universe and left him at the cabin at the time he figured out how to get the group back together. Leena hands the original Devin's phone to the new Devin.

Back at the house, Leena confronts Noel, who tells her that they should get back together and shows her some amazing technological devices that he has stolen from other universes.

Noel is gunned down by Josh as he sneaks into the house. Josh has flown off the handle as he can't resolve what is happening in his life. His gun goes off during a struggle with Noel, severely wounding Noel. The injured Noel and Josh are shot by a second copy of Noel, who carries a futuristic gun. The gun burns the bodies.

Noel visits Leena downstairs and tries to show her that he has always loved her by pointing to the numerous other Leenas he has met. Noel is distracted as Leena grabs the futuristic gun, but it does not fire. She flees to the attic, where the new alt Devin appears just in time to rescue her from Noel's grasp as she ascends the stairs. Noel, who gets into a fight with Devin and is shot, then jumps into the mirror. Leena closes the mirror, cutting Noel in half and squeezing him between universes as he steps back through into theirs.

After embracing, Devin and Leena dispose of the body. The mirror is smashed by Leena. To begin a new life, the two leave. A flash of light appears in the mirror when Leena is in the gas station restroom. She and Devin get back in the car, but she's an alternate who has no memory of the music they were just listening to on the way.

Parallel Ending meaning

The ending of the 2018 film "Parallel" leaves much to interpretation, but there are a few possible meanings to consider.

In the final scene, the main character, Heather (played by Georgia King), looks into a mirror and sees her alternate self. It's implied that this alternate version of Heather is from a parallel universe, and has somehow crossed over into Heather's universe.

One interpretation of this ending is that Heather has finally achieved her goal of finding a way to travel between parallel universes, which she had been seeking throughout the film. However, this also raises questions about the consequences of her actions and the potential dangers of meddling with parallel universes.

Another possible interpretation is that the appearance of the alternate Heather is a metaphor for the idea that there are multiple versions of ourselves existing in different universes or dimensions. This idea is a common theme in science fiction and philosophy, exploring questions about identity, choice, and the nature of reality.

Overall, the ending of "Parallel" leaves the viewer with a sense of intrigue and wonder, as well as a desire to explore the possibilities of parallel universes and the implications they may have on our understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

Parallel Plot

The movie begins with an elderly couple in bed, and their dog crying leads the wife to investigate. She finds her pet unharmed, but when she goes to feed him, a masked intruder kills her. The intruder removes her mask, revealing an exact duplicate of the wife. She then rejoins the husband in bed.

Next, four friends, Devin, Noel, Leena, and Josh, are running a software startup. They pitch to investors and are given an impossible deadline. The investors have met with a similar company, which they like. The group realizes they have been betrayed by a programmer they considered hiring, Seth. They drown their sorrows in a local bar and learn that their home is rumored to be haunted by the previous owner's disappearance.

The group returns home and discovers a hidden room after damaging the wall during an argument. They find a strange mirror, and Josh discovers it is a portal to different universes. They decide to use the portal to slow down time and complete the app. They finish and give it to their investors, then mock Seth while driving past him.

Over drinks, they discuss how they can use the portal to their advantage. Leena uncovers the missing woman's diaries and learns that she used the mirror to reconnect with her deceased husband in another universe. Noel proposes they use the portal to steal ideas, despite Devin's protests. Devin later discovers that his father died after committing suicide due to a corruption scandal.

Josh uses the mirror to seduce women, Leena copies great works of art and sells them as her own, and Noel resells ideas for technology. All four become successful and wealthy. They are approached by Seth, who insults Devin about his father, causing a fight. Noel takes Devin through the mirror to another universe to destroy Seth's belongings. Devin learns that Noel doesn't consider people in alternate universes to be real and grows concerned for his friend.
