Who is Paul O'Grady?
Paul James O'Grady MBE DL, an English entertainer, telecaster, essayist, and former cross-dresser, was born on June 14, 1955. In the 1980s, he rose to prominence in the London gay scene as Lily Savage, a drag queen, and maintained that status throughout the 1990s. In the years that followed, O'Grady quit portraying the character and started hosting a number of radio and television programs, most notably The Paul O'Grady Show. O'Grady was born into a working-class Irish immigrant family in Tranmere, Cheshire. He relocated to London in the late 1970s and began working for Camden Council as a peripatetic care officer. He began his drag career in 1978 and created the character of Lily Savage based on traits that his female relatives shared. After touring England with the drag mime pair the Playgirls, O'Grady started performing stand-up comedy solo in the early 1980s.

Paul O'Grady, a well-known comedian and television host who made his name with his drag act Lily Savage, has passed away at the age of 67. In a statement, his husband, Andre Portasio, said that O'Grady passed away on Tuesday evening "unexpectedly but peacefully." We ask, at this troublesome time, that while you praise his life you likewise regard our protection as we find a sense of peace with this misfortune," Portasio said in a proclamation. " His loved ones, friends, family, animals, and all those who appreciated his humor, wit, and compassion will greatly miss him. I am aware that he would want me to express my gratitude to you for all of your love over the years.
How Did Paul O'Grady Die?
Andre Portasio said that O'Grady died on Tuesday evening "unexpectedly but peacefully." He spent a considerable amount of time performing as Savage at the Imperial Vauxhall Bar (RVT), a gay pub in South London, where he developed a devoted following and used his identity to advocate for gay rights. After being nominated for a Perrier Award in 1992, O'Grady attracted a lot of attention and frequently appeared on stage, radio, and television. He portrayed Savage on the television programs Lily Live!, Blankety Blank, and The Big Breakfast from 1997 until 2002. (from 2002 to 2005). He received a few honors between 2000 and 2001, which helped him establish himself as a well-known public personality.
Paul O'Grady Early Life
O'Grady was born on June 14, 1955, at St. Catherine's Hospital in the Tranmere neighborhood of Birkenhead, Cheshire (now Merseyside). His Irish father, Patrick "Paddy" Grady (1912–1973), lived in Ballincurry, County Roscommon, before moving to England in 1936 and settling in Birkenhead, a working-class neighborhood. When Patrick joined the Royal Air Force, he had his name changed from "Grady" to "O'Grady" due to a mistake on his paperwork, but he kept the new name. Patrick married Mary "Molly" Savage, who was born in England to Irish immigrants from County Louth. Paul was their third child. O'Grady was born more than a decade after his brother Brendan, who was born in 1941, and sister Sheila, who was born in 1944.
