It was first released on August 28, 2019, and has since gained a large following of fans of the Pokemon franchise. The game takes place on the artificial island of Pasio, where trainers from all over the Pokemon world come together to participate in 3-on-3 battles. Players take on the role of a young trainer who is looking to become the Champion of the Pokemon Masters League. Along the way, they will team up with various well-known trainers from the series, such as Brock, Misty, and Cynthia, as well as newer characters like Korrina and Diantha. In battles, players control a team of three Pokemon and battle against other trainers in real time. Each Pokemon has a unique set of moves and abilities, and players must strategically choose which Pokemon to use in each battle. Each trainer in the game is paired with a specific Pokemon, and these pairs have special abilities that can be used in battle. Pokemon Masters EX also includes various side activities and events for players to participate in. For example, players can take part in cooperative battles with other players online, or participate in special events where they can earn rewards such as new Pokemon and items.
