PS 5 Update 7.00 Discord

Sony has introduced a new update for PS5, which includes integration with Discord and support for variable refresh rate (VRR) at 1440p resolution. The feature was previously tested in beta and now enables players to receive Discord calls on their console, but only after they transfer the call from their PC or phone app to the system. To use this feature, users must link their Discord account by accessing the 'Linked Services' in the PS5 settings. Additionally, the update includes screen-sharing capability, voice command-based gameplay recording, and an option to transfer saved data between PlayStation consoles. This update is version 7 and is quite substantial in size.

New Playstation 5 System Update 7.0 Released

The Verge has reported that the current Discord integration on PS5 only permits voice calls and does not allow for text messages or server access. However, it is important to note that Xbox took some time before integrating Discord onto its console, which was completed last year, allowing players to access the options directly. This may just be the first step in the right direction for PlayStation.

The PS5's new Discord integration is a third-party app that enables cross-platform play and facilitates smooth voice communication across platforms. Once set up, players can control their volume, mute audio, or minimize it while they continue playing their game(s). The update also promises smoother performance when using VRR-compatible HDMI 2.1 displays, which aim to dynamically sync the refresh rate of the connected display to that of the PS5 console, minimizing frame pacing issues and screen tearing. Additionally, players can start or request a friend to share their screens directly from the user profile. Moreover, players can join a friend's gaming session by selecting the profile and hitting 'Join Game' from the menu. The home screen of a selected game now displays a 'Friends Who Play' tile, displaying who else in the friend list owns the same game, similar to Steam.

The 1.1GB update also facilitates saved data migration through a pop-up notification that appears when installing a PS4 game on the PS5. Once the console recognizes the saved data available on the PlayStation Network's (PSN) cloud storage, it will give players the option to download and sync it for future use. However, online save storage requires a PS Plus subscription. Furthermore, PS5-PS5 data transfer enables players to quickly and easily move games, saved data, user profiles, settings, and screenshots to another system through local Wi-Fi or a LAN cable.

In the US and UK, PS5 owners can use the game capture preview, which allows for hands-free recording via voice commands. Saying "Hey PlayStation, capture that!" will save a small video clip from the most recent gameplay. The clip duration is based on personal settings and can range from 15 seconds to an entire hour. Alternatively, players can say "Hey PlayStation, start recording!" to manually start a gameplay capture that will go on until they request it to stop.
