Quantum Essence in Starfield is a special item that helps you recover your Power quickly. It lets you use your Starborn abilities more often for a short time, which can be really helpful in tough battles.
You can find Quantum Essence in a special menu called the Powers screen, not in your regular inventory. After completing some main story missions, you'll unlock both the menu and Quantum Essence. When you use Quantum Essence, your character will have a golden glow around them, whether you're seeing from their perspective or watching them in third-person view.
Where to Get Quantum Essence?
You can get Quantum Essence in Starfield by defeating Starborn enemies. These special foes leave behind Quantum Essence when they disappear in a bright light after being defeated. You'll encounter Starborn enemies most reliably after completing a temple. They may also appear when you're searching for later artifact pieces, though temples are where you'll encounter them more often.
As you progress in the main story, Starborn enemies will actively seek you out, giving you more opportunities to collect Quantum Essence. Additionally, building the Armillary on your ship will attract Starborn, providing a steady supply of Quantum Essence at random times.
Keep in mind that there's a set number of Guardians and story-based Starborn that you can fight and obtain Essences from, so these random encounters become quite important for stocking up on Quantum Essence.
