She grew up in Dubuque and graduated from East Dubuque High School in the Class of 2010. Rachel further pursued her education and obtained an Associate's Degree from NICC in Peosta, Iowa.

For the past 10 years, Rachel dedicated her professional career as a Customer Service Specialist at Packers Chemical in Kieler, Wisconsin. Her commitment and dedication to her work were evident in her role.

Rachel L. (Sutter) Berning, aged 30 and residing in rural Hazel Green, Wisconsin, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2023, at 3:40 PM. Her peaceful transition occurred at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, following a courageous two-year battle with breast cancer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in East Dubuque. The service will be conducted by Fr. Dennis Vargas. Following the funeral, Rachel will be laid to rest at the East Dubuque Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at St. Mary's Church on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Additionally, there will be visitation hours at the church from 9:15 AM to 10:15 AM on Thursday before the funeral service. A Parish Prayer Service will be held at the church on Wednesday at 2:30 PM. The Miller Funeral Home of East Dubuque is honored to assist the family during this difficult time.

Throughout the two years, she faced numerous challenges with unwavering determination and a positive outlook. Despite the difficult circumstances, Rachel remained an inspiration to those around her.Rachel is survived by her beloved husband, Tim, and their precious daughter, Harper. 

She is also survived by her loving parents, Mark (Vicky) Sutter and Jane (Scott) Schauer, both of East Dubuque, Illinois. Additionally, her in-laws, Gary and Deb (Bussan) Berning of Menominee, Illinois, remain to cherish her memory. Rachel's siblings include Jonathan and Colin Sutter, while her step-siblings are Brett Davidson, Justin Schauer, Jaimie Stark, and Jason Schauer. 

She is also remembered by her siblings-in-law: Becky (Scott) Bradley, Jeff Berning (Brianne), Andy Berning (Brooke), and Michael Berning (Liz). Rachel's maternal grandparents are Bill and Virginia Reynolds, and she leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Rachel was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Joseph and Eileen (Martelle) Sutter.The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the tri-state community for the outpouring of love, support, and kindness shown to Rachel and her family throughout the past two years. In lieu of flowers, a Rachel Berning Memorial Fund has been established to support Harper's future educational expenses.
