Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege Gameplay

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege is a first-person shooter game that features a variety of operators from the Rainbow team, with each operator having unique nationalities, weapons, and gadgets. The game has an asymmetrical structure in which teams may not always be balanced in terms of abilities. A premium currency known as "R6 credits" can also be purchased with real-world currency to obtain operators or cosmetic items more quickly.

Players can select any operator from any unit that is defending or attacking before a round starts, choosing spawn points and gun attachments but are not allowed to change their choices once the round has started. The in-game currency, "Renown," can be used to purchase operators or cosmetics from the in-game shop, and different gameplay modes offer different Renown rates.

Different types of gameplay modes in Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege

Upon release, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege had 11 maps and five gameplay modes, encompassing both player-versus-environment (PVE) and player-versus-player (PVP) modes. Additional downloadable content (DLC) released post-launch added four maps from year one and three maps from year two, bringing the total number of playable maps to 20. The game modes included are:

Hostage

  • A multiplayer mode is where the attackers must extract a hostage from the defenders, who must either prevent the hostage extraction or eliminate all attackers. In this multiplayer mode, the attackers' goal is to extract a hostage while the defenders aim to stop them by either preventing the extraction or eliminating all attackers.

Bomb

  • A competitive multiplayer mode where attackers must locate and defuse one of two bombs while defenders try to stop them by killing all attackers or destroying the defuser. In this competitive multiplayer mode of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, attackers need to locate and defuse one of the two bombs, while defenders aim to prevent them by killing all attackers or destroying the defuser.

Secure Area

  • A non-competitive multiplayer mode where defenders must protect a room with a biohazard container, while attackers must secure it. The game ends when one team is eliminated or the biohazard container is secured. In this non-competitive multiplayer mode of Rainbow Six Siege, defenders aim to safeguard a room containing a biohazard container, while attackers aim to secure it.
  • The match concludes when either team is eliminated or when the container is successfully secured.

Tactical Realism

  • A variation of standard competitive multiplayer modes that emphasizes realism and teamwork by removing most heads-up display (HUD) elements, opponent marking, and teammate visibility through walls, while featuring a realistic ammo management system. This model is no longer available, but some aspects have been incorporated into other multiplayer modes.

Training Grounds

  • A solo or cooperative multiplayer mode where up to five players take on the role of attackers or defenders and face waves of AI-controlled enemies in various modes such as Bomb, Hostage, or Elimination.
  • In the Terrorist Hunt mode of Rainbow Six Siege, players can engage in a cooperative multiplayer or solo experience, fighting waves of AI-controlled enemies in different modes like Bomb, Hostage, or Elimination with up to five players as attackers or defenders.

Situations

  • A series of 10 solo and one cooperative multiplayer mission designed to serve as an introductory and interactive tutorial for the game's mechanics. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege features 10 solo and one cooperative multiplayer "situations" that act as an interactive tutorial for the game's mechanics.

Outbreak

  • A limited-time event exclusive to Operation Chimera, where a team of three players face AI-controlled heavily mutated humans infected with an alien parasite in a PVE environment. Two difficulties exist, with the harder one featuring friendly fire.
  •  In Operation Chimera, a time-limited event introduced a PVE game mode where a team of three players confronts AI-controlled, heavily mutated humans infected with an alien parasite. The game mode had two difficulty levels, with the harder level featuring friendly fire.

Arcade

  • A series of random, limited-time events that modify existing modes on a smaller scale than seasonal game modes. Examples include the Golden Gun event. These are short-term, sporadic events that alter existing game modes on a smaller scale than seasonal events, such as the Golden Gun event.

Seasonal Events

  • Limited-time events available for one season that offer large-scale, completely unique game modes compared to regular Bomb, Secure Area, or Hostage game modes. The game offers limited-time events during a season, which provide completely unique game modes on a large scale compared to the regular Bomb, Secure Area, or Hostage modes.
